Xi'an Jiaotong University's 3rd Annual Summer English Program has 5 Instructor Positions open for Qualified Teachers, June 22-July 21. 15,000 RMB + free accommodation / board.

Join our faculty of 65 professional teachers from around the world for a one-month Intensive Summer English Program at Xi'an Jiaotong University, one of China's top 10 universities. Work and play for a month in the ancient city of Xi’an, the cradle of Chinese civilization, home of the Terra-cotta Warriors, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, and the eastern terminus of the Silk Road.

Renumeration

- 15,000 RMB (2,200 USD) reimbursement for all travel expenses.
- Free accommodation at the modern, world-class Citadines Hotel across the street from Jiaoda’s main campus.
- Free board: Campus debit card valued at 900 yuan useable in campus cafeterias for meals and at campus stores for school supplies and personal items.

Qualifications:

- BA or higher in Education or related field.
- 1 full-year teaching experience, ELA preferred.
- Familiar with TESOL/General English as a Second Language.
- Familiar with and able to conduct communicative teaching practices.
- Ability to collaborate and work with a teaching partner within a teaching team.
- Confidence in teaching and managing a class of 40 students.
- Passport with minimum 6 months validity remaining.
- Appropriate visa (more on this to come from the program coordinators upon acceptance to the program).

Duties:

- To teach 5 total hours per day, during two half-day sessions, 5 days a week;
- To follow the curriculum and teaching plan designed by the School of Foreign Studies, which will be provided to accepted teachers prior to the program;
- To prepare lessons, choose suitable learning materials, apply appropriate, interactive teaching methods in classroom teaching, and to work closely in teaching teams with interns, faculty, and staff to deliver activities to improve students’ communicative ability in English;
- To collaborate in a large teaching team and be available to liaise with international colleagues as necessary;
- To give a one-hour public presentation in English about a favorite topic relevant to language, traditional culture of native English speaking peoples, all areas of popular culture (e.g., music, arts, sports), environment, science, etc. These presentations may be accompanied by PowerPoint slides.

Program Description:

Qualified Guest English Lecturers will join a team of 65 other instructors to provide communicative instruction to XJTU's entire freshmen class of 4,300 students. Guest Lecturers will plan for and conduct 5 hours per day of classroom instruction, Monday - Friday, for 4 weeks from June 26 - July 21. Successful candidates should plan to arrive by Friday, June 23 for a weekend of Orientation activities before teaching on Monday morning.

The main language focus of this program is on Speaking and Listening, but Reading and Writing can be incorporated as well as long as they are used as a springboard for Communicative activities. Communicative classroom activities can include interviews, debates, project-based assessments, presentations, drama, and much more. Guest Lecturers will be paired up with another teacher for co-planning and collaboration.
