General Working Conditions for Private English Schools
Starting Dates: New jobs available every month (January through December)
Class Size: 10 - 15 Students Per Class
Curriculum: Set curriculum provided by the school
Location; Teachers can request specific locations
Western Teachers: 1 – 20 teachers per school
Salary: 1.9 to 2.7 million Korean Won (based on experience)
Accommodations: Furnished apartments provided by the schools
Severance Pay: Equal To 1 Months Salary
Avg. Work Hrs (Day): 7 to 9 hrs (including prep time and breaks)
Avg. Teaching Hrs (Day): 5 to 6 hours (in-class teaching)
Airfare: Airfare provided (Usually provided In advance)
Class Time: 40 - 60 minute classes

GEPIK - Gyeonggi-do English Program in Korea (Gyeonggi Public School Jobs)
What is GEPIK? GEPIK is the other public school program in Korea that’s specific to Gyeonggi Province. Gone2Korea has access to a select number of GEPIK public school positions each semester. At present there are more than 1200 western teachers working of the Gyeonggi Education Office and recent estimates stated that this number will likely exceed 1800 by the end of 2011. Note: If you apply and we no longer have GEPIK jobs remaining then one of our coordinators will gladly refer you to one of our partner companies who can help.
GEPIK Hiring Dates: GEPIK hires new teachers at the beginning of each semester. The first semester begins on March 1st; however, western teachers are expected to arrive in mid February in order to accommodate the GEPIK training and orientation period. The second semester begins on September 1st and new teachers are expected to arrive in mid to late August for training and orientation. Note: Due to the sheer size of the GEPIK program, jobs are sometimes available in March/April and September/October as well. Similar to EPIK, Gone2Korea advises GEPIK applicants to submit their applications 5-6 months in advance.
GEPIK Eligibility: The basic requirements for submitting a GEPIK application are the same as the requirements for private schools and the other public schools programs (EPIK & SMOE). Please refer to our application requirements page for detail.
Please be Advised: Location options are very limited in the GEPIK program. If you’re interested in working in one of Korea’s 7 major city centers (Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Incheon, Gwangju or Ulsan) or you prefer a job in the southern region of South Korea then applying to EPIK instead of GEPIK will be required.
