Certified Elementary & Secondary Teachers
Ayeyarwaddy International School
Certified Elementary & Secondary Teachers
Ayeyarwaddy International School (AIS) in Mandalay, Myanmar, has the following positions open:
1. Secondary Science (1 position)
2. Secondary Language Arts (1 position)
3. Elementary Generalists (5 positions)
Please note that these are not ESL positions, where instructors focus only on English. Aside from the secondary specialist positions, our instructors teach all academic content (math, science, language arts, and social studies) to their students. English is the language of instruction for all academic subjects.
Qualifications:
1. Native English Speaker.
2. University degree in education preferred, but we will consider other majors if the candidate has sufficient experience and excellent references.
3. Elementary or secondary teaching certificate.
4. Must be living in the region and/or must be able to arrive in Mandalay by, or before, May 12 in order to prepare for the start of the school year on May 13. All positions are full-time contracts which cover the period May 13 to February 28 (Myanmar’s academic school year).
5. Couples are encouraged to apply, but both persons must meet the minimum qualifications outlined here, and both must teach at the school. We regret that we do not at this time allow couples with children; our housing is strictly limited to adults.
6. Since this is an American school, our preference is for American educators who are familiar with public school curricula in the United States. We do, however, have an international teaching staff and will consider highly qualified teachers from other countries.
In general, we are looking for professional teachers - teachers who know how to prepare lessons, how to follow an established curriculum, how to dress professionally, how to manage a classroom, how to communicate professionally, and how to work effectively with student, parents, coworkers, and administrators.
Compensation:
1. $1800-$2200 in a setting where it is easy to save one’s pay.
2. Free housing at the school itself (includes laundry and cleaning service).
3. Initial visa paid for by the school and visa renewals (cost of visa, transportation to/from Bangkok, and one night in a hotel) also paid for by the school.
4. A professional environment where you can continue to improve as a teacher, and an administration whose goal is to support you and to help you to succeed.
5. A brand new school with 50 classrooms, A/C in classrooms and in living quarters, SmartBoards for the classes, a separate gym, a separate cafeteria, a swimming pool, and a soccer field.
To apply, send resume/CV, cover letter, recent photo, and copies of teaching credentials to Dr. Gary Robson at Myanmarpcv@gmail.com. Only those applications which are complete and which meet the minimum criteria outlined above will be considered. We will not respond to other applicants.
Former Peace Corps Volunteers are encouraged to apply. If you are an RPCV, please highlight this in your cover letter.
