Teach for Palestine
Communications Intern
Teach for Palestine is looking for new recruits! We are searching for hard-working volunteers to join us for our Fall 2014 term beginning in late August.
About the organization:
We work with some of the most at-risk youth in the West Bank, offering them an opportunity to improve their life chances through education. As well as teaching English, we instruct our students in critical thinking, physical education, and art.
We work in numerous community centers in the refugee camps and villages in and around the city of Nablus. We have recently, and successfully, transitioned to an all-girls after-school program that loosely follows the Palestinian state school curriculum. We believe this transition will improve our girls’ opportunities in higher education; this will also allow the girls the same chance to experience extra-curricular activities in the same way their male-counterparts do.
Responsibilities:
Social Media and Web Presence (60%)
Research (15%)
General (25%)
Intern Development Program (IDP):
As a small organization, our volunteers be able to experience first-hand the day-to-day running of a non-profit. Interns are able to tailor their time with the organization in order to hone the skills they would like to take away from this experience.
We encourage our volunteers to experience all dimensions of Palestinian and Nabulsi culture during their time with the organization. We offer a private Arabic language course to all volunteers, taught by a qualified, native speaker. We also arrange cultural activities for our volunteers throughout the semester. Activities can include a tour of the old city and other historical sites around the city.
Requirements:
We look for applicants who are adept at living in a conservative and unpredictable city, and who can demonstrate creativity and patience while working in such an environment. Successful interns are those who go the extra mile to make the most of their time with our organization, and who are constantly looking for ways to improve the online presence of the organization.
Remuneration:
We charge a one-time, non-refundable program fee of 100 USD. We also charge a weekly fee of 25 USD for the duration of the internship. This is used to cover administrative costs, the IDP, and shared accommodation and all amenities.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, and recent photo toinfo@teach-for-palestine.org. (Application deadline is 1 June 2014.)
