IDP English (Silom Centre) is a leading provider of Academic English and IELTS preparation courses which are undertaken as a first step to studying and living overseas as well as for satisfactory attainment of language requirements at various English-medium and other institutions in Thailand.
We have a very good reputation for helping our students lift their level of English and in particular obtain the desired IELTS result for the above purposes.
IDP English (Silom Centre) was originally established in 1988, when it was known as the English Language Centre of Australia (ELCA). The school is the English Language Training arm of IDP Education, and is co-located with the IDP office, which provides placement services for students going to Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US and Canada.
IDP English provides an Academic English pathway program that develops both English language and study skills. Students who have graduated from IDP English and studied abroad now number in the hundreds and many are in senior positions in Thailand.
The opportunity:
The role of the Director of Studies (DOS) is to lead the growth and development of IDP English in Thailand. The DOS is responsible to the IDP Regional ELT Manager (South East Asia), but is the focal point within IDP English (Thailand) for all human resource, academic, financial and other matters.
Duties:
• Recruit appropriately qualified and experienced staff for the efficient operation of the centre. Seek relevant approval for any senior appointments or new positions related to any re-structure
• Manage relevant teaching programs, including the adherence to agreed syllabus and curriculum materials
• Ensure quality systems are implemented, including academic consultation, professional development and skills transfer, performance review
• Ensure quality of processes e.g. for student counseling, program delivery, assessment, evaluation
• Prepare budgets for approval by the Regional ELT Manager, and implement the business plan in accordance with the approved budget
• Lead the growth of IDP English in Thailand, including re-structuring the operations and physical layout of existing facilities
• Market IDP English, ensuring brand integrity, and ensure that the school is on a steady growth trajectory
2. Qualifications
The applicant should demonstrate a balance of business acumen, management ability and content knowledge
The appointee must:
• Be a graduate with relevant post-graduate qualifications, preferably in TESOL/Applied Linguistics
• Demonstrate extensive academic experience including in EAP/ESP programs (preferably in a developing country) and curriculum and materials development
• Have superior staff management skills in a range of contexts
• Demonstrate a sound knowledge of resources and resource allocation
• Demonstrate commercial orientation, including with a proven track record
Qualities:
The appointee should demonstrate superior capacity to:
• Lead and manage a team so that they can achieve agreed goals efficiently and effectively
• Balance quality and commercial objectives
• Inspire staff to contribute above average outputs on an ongoing basis
• Focus on academic outcomes
• Grow the school
• Work closely with senior management within IDP, with other administrative staff in the school and ensure a team spirit among all staff, both academic and support
• Represent the school in a way that enhances its reputation and wins business
• Commit to the school for the duration of the contract
Date of appointment:
The successful applicant will be required to take up duty on a starting date to be negotiated.

• Salary: Baht 80,000 – 110,000 per month + generous performance incentive
• Coverage by IDP medical insurance scheme
• Up to Baht 40,000 allowance toward one-way inbound flight to Thailand
