We are seeking a Director of Studies who can lead our modern school on to great things.

The Job

Essential qualities for this challenging position include strong people management skills and the ability to motivate and lead a team of international teachers. A proven track record in teacher training through workshops, class observations and one-on-one support are vital to this role.

The right candidate will be organized and logic in planning and implementation of new school initiatives. Excellent creativity and problem solving skills are also needed.

You will have a degree and credible TEFL qualification as well as a wide range of teaching experience, especially to young learners. You will be well versed in TEFL methodology and teaching techniques.

Courses

Popular with teachers and students alike, the courses are aimed at a range of ages and abilities. The main focus is on young learners aged 7 to 14, although adult and business English classes are also offered. The class sizes are kept small, to an average of 8-12 students which allows for noticeable progress to be made and also makes classroom management that much easier.

Course books are accompanied by a wide range of supplementary materials - flashcards, posters, handouts, CD’s, videos, songs and in-class computer applications, all essential for teachers to deliver varied, engaging classes. Most of the schools have now installed interactive whiteboards which add an exciting new dimension to how you can teach.

Yantai – The city

Yantai is located on the southern coast of the Bohai Sea and the eastern coast of the Laizhou Bay, Yantai borders the cities of Qingdao and Weihai to the southwest and east respectively. Although located in the north, monsoons regulate the climate, keeping it warm and humid. The average temperature is about 11.8-degrees Celsius. Fruits and vegetables are plentiful in this city, and the long coastline and over 60 islands make the area ideal for any seafood lovers.

In addition to Yantai’s natural resources, the breathtaking scenery in and around the city has earned a highly appraised reputation by the United Nations, which lists as one of the most inhabitable places in the world. Transportation is convenient and relatively inexpensive. By rail, Yantai is connected with major cities such as Qingdao, Beijing, and Shanghai. Passenger-ferries to Hong Kong, Seoul, and Daegu of South Korea have also been opened.

Main Responsibilities

-Teacher training and development.

-Teacher management

-Teaching high quality lessons

-Scheduling and timetabling

-Administrative reports

-School development and operation

-Attending professional development seminars and DoS training sessions.

Compensation

--Competitive salary: 9,000 - 11,000RMB per month (depending on experience)
--Furnished accommodation near the school (not shared)
--Flight allowance: 10,000RMB
--Visa and local residential permits arranged
--Paid vacation: 15 working days plus all Chinese public holidays (usually 2 weeks per year)

Requirements

--Native or near-native English speaker

--University degree

--Credible teaching qualification

--At least 3 years of teaching experience and 1 year of management experience
