English Language Lecturer Position (full-time)
ENGLISH LANGUAGE LECTURER POSITION (Full-time) - American Language Institute at NYU Shanghai
New York University’s American Language Institute (ALI), a unit in NYU’s School of Professional Studies, and NYU Shanghai seek talented, innovative, and collaborative instructors of English as an additional language (EAL) for the academic, professional, and comprehensive English courses taught at the American Language Institute at NYU Shanghai (ALI Shanghai) in Pudong, Shanghai, China.
The American Language Institute (ALI) in New York—one of the first English language centers in the world—offers programs in academic, professional, and comprehensive English. The ALI is expanding its operations abroad, bringing high quality, rigorous programs to students on site around the world. The first ALI global site, the NYU SPS ALI Tokyo Center, was launched in 2013 in Japan. Building upon this success, the American Language Institute at NYU Shanghai launched in Fall 2015, bringing over sixty years of English language teaching expertise to China.
NYU Shanghai and the ALI in New York partnered to establish ALI Shanghai. NYU SPS ALI in New York oversees all academic aspects of the program (curriculum, instructor selection and supervision) and ensures that ALI Shanghai quality standards conform to NYU SPS standards. NYU Shanghai employs instructors and handles the management, logistics, and space for ALI Shanghai.
Reporting to the ALI Shanghai Academic Director, ALI Shanghai language lecturers will be responsible for teaching EAL and/or language teacher education courses at ALI Shanghai. In addition, each full-time language lecturer will be responsible for administrative coordination of one of the programs listed below. The full-time language lecturers will be granted three-year, renewable contracts with NYU Shanghai, who will provide visa sponsorship if necessary.
ALI Shanghai offers programs for students and professionals:
• The Academic English Program (AEP) enables Chinese learners of English to meet U.S. college and graduate school entrance threshold levels of English with academic course offerings as well as a gap-year program.
• The Professional English Program (PEP) is designed for professionals aspiring to greater levels of English proficiency in order to more fully and successfully participate in an increasingly globalized business world.
• The Comprehensive English Program (CEP) offers courses to help adult learners develop general English proficiency and to attain the level necessary for the Academic English Program and the Professional English Program.
We are seeking individuals who enjoy the challenge of being part of something new—people who would look forward to working closely with colleagues in Shanghai, in Tokyo, and in New York to make this entrepreneurial effort a successful enterprise.
