Terms of Reference for English Teacher Volunteers in DM Thailand
Name: English Teacher Volunteers in Thailand 2013
Objective : To provide an opportunity for Native English Speaker Canadian/USA volunteers to teach English language to Thai workforce who has very little or no English proficiency at all.
Number of volunteers : Depends on requirement/capacity of the volunteer recipient institution DM Thailand /department/divisions
Number of Volunteers at a time : Not more than 2 at a time. Depends on circumstances and number of DM Thailand staff required to improve their English communication skills.
Duration of deployment : 1- 3 months or subject to mutual understanding between volunteers and the DM Thailand .
Selection of Volunteers
Qualification of Volunteers
Some sort of English teaching experience in the past or in the process of being qualified as an English teaching professional.< br>
Native English speaker.
University graduate
Willing to travel and live in the tropical country environment
No history of criminal activity or violence or/and convicted of felony
Experience in teaching adults.
CLBPT 8+ or equivalent
Healthy and Physically fit
Selection process
One page essay ( 200 words) describing “why do you choose to go to Thailand to teach English to Thai workforce”.
Informal interview in Toronto by phone or face to face.
Acceptance by host institution, DM Thailand.
What host expects from Volunteers.
Teaching English – spoken , written , and reading comprehension for business communication
No. of hours per day – 5-8 per days 5 days a week
No. of staff to be taught – about 5-10 people at a time
Teaching methodology – classroom and on site.
What Volunteers can expect from the host
Volunteers will not be paid for their work, but they will gain extraordinary work experience and discover skills they never knew they had, and they will have a great time. The host institution does not receive any government funding or other outside funding for this project. The volunteers can expect following assistance from the host institution:
Economy class round trip air-ticket
Safe accommodation in dormitory with internet access
All meals are provided with the exception of when the volunteer is traveling or socializing
Local transportation for volunteering work
Airport pick up and drop off
Local travel insurance
Local medical insurance
Visa support (if applicable)
Sponsered one week vacation (including air ticket + hotel) in Thailand for anybody who volunteers more than 12 weeks.
