English Teachers Needed in Zunyi, Guizhou

Our company is called Star Source Foreign Language School. We have been teaching English to young students (8-16 yrs old) for almost 10 years in Zunyi, Guizhou, a large city in southwest China not far from Chongqing, Guiyang, and Chengdu. The English level of the students ranges from beginning for the youngest students, to intermediate for the older students.

Currently, our school has 17 Chinese teachers and 700 students. Students study only on weekends at our school. The Chinese teachers speak good English. We are looking to add 2 native English speaker teachers to our staff.

The typical week for the a teacher involves teaching on Friday evening (2 45 minute classes), Saturday and Sunday (8 45 minute classes). There are around 20 students in each class. Teachers have Monday and Tuesday off. On Wednesday and Thursday they spend about 12 hours preparing for the weekend classes, grading papers, etc. The facilities are very modern and each classroom has a projector, etc. The building has central heat and AC. It is located in the best part of Zunyi, right downtown.

The purpose of the school is to provide additional English training to improve upon the training they receive during the school week. Many Chinese parents want to improve their child's education in this way, as you probably know.

We don't currently have a website and rely just on local advertising, which has worked well for us so far. In the future perhaps we will create one. It would help recruit foreign teachers.

The salary will be 7,000-9,000 RMB per month, depending on qualifications. Health insurance, international flight, visa assistance, housing/utilities, Chinese classes are provided.

The Chinese gov't requires foreign teachers to have at least 120 hours of TEFL training to get a working visa, or two years of teaching experience.

We prefer the teacher to have some experience teaching young students, but this isn't required. They should have a bachelors degree at least, in any subject. We prefer the teacher be from the USA or the UK, or another country where English is the first language, and should be a native English speaker.

Zunyi is a comfortable place to live and there is a small community of other foreign teachers here.

We are seeking to hire a teacher fairly soon, and he or she would start teaching July 1.
