Overview

Joy Children’s English Language School is currently looking for native English speaking teachers for its 6 schools within the city of Luoyang, Henan, China. This is a great opportunity to come to China and experience a traditional Chinese city with a lot of culture and history as well as get great teaching experience and a very comfortable working environment.

Joy Children’s English Language School
Joy Children’s English Language School is located in the medium-sized city of Luoyang close to the geographical center of China. The first Joy School opened in 1981 in Taipei’s Xin-Yi district by Sam Chen and Peggy Huang with a guiding principle that learning English should be an enriching and fun experience for children. Today, there are more than 200 schools across the island and hundreds of schools in China. Most of the schools are franchise or owner-operated.

Joy School in Luoyang was started in 2004 by Tracy & Steven and has already expanded to 5 currently operating schools with a sixth school just opened in the New District of Luoyang.

Foreign English Teacher
We are looking for excellent and enthusiastic native English speakers who truly want to experience Chinese culture and work hard to be a great English teacher.

We are offering a 12-month contract to come and teach with our school. Joy School will assist with all the necessary paperwork for application of VISA, Work Permit and Residency Permit before you come to china and you will, upon arrival, be issued with an official working visa as well as a foreign expert’s certificate and residency permit. You will technically be a Chinese Foreign Expert.

As a foreign English teacher at Joy school, you will teach a maximum of 18 hours per week, sometimes less than this. Your responsibilities are for the most part (but not limited to), planning and teaching classes with the Chinese teachers.

The classes are taught in the evenings on weekdays and on weekends. During the week the office hours are scheduled from 3-5 in the afternoon with 2 hours of teaching from 6:30-7:20 and 7:30 – 8:20. In the weekends the teachers usually teach between 4-5 classes from 10:20 in the morning to around 6:10 in the evening depending on the schedule for that day. On the weekend days there is a long lunch break from 12 - 2 where there is no teaching.

In the regular classes, the foreign teacher acts as a guest-teacher and teaches the classes twice a month. The Chinese teacher will often inform you of the material that he or she would like for you to teach in that class, but you are free to teach the material in your own way.

Joy School currently has 5 schools in the city and a sixth school is opening soon. As a foreign teacher you will be working at 1 school full-time or, in some cases, working at 2 schools that are very close to each other.

Salary
The starting monthly salary is RMB 6500 (just over $1000 USD) per month. The cost of living in Luoyang is extremely low with a meal at a local restaurant costing less than RMB 10 ($1.5 USD). The salary is more than enough to live a very comfortable life in Luoyang and still save money each month.

Upon completion of a one-year contract you will receive a RMB 2000 bonus and, should you choose to stay, an annual salary raise of RMB 3900 for up to 3 consecutive years.

Person Description / Qualifications
We are looking for native speakers of English either from the U.S.A, Canada, England or Australia although we believe that exceptions can be made for applicants with near-native skills in English. You should:
• Have a GENUINE interest in teaching and working with children
• Have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (BA is preferred but not required)
• Teaching experience is preferred but not required
• TEFL / TESOL or equivalent certificate preferred (online certificates accepted)
• Native English speaker or near-native communication skills

What we offer
To the foreign teachers employed at Joy School we offer:
• Monthly Salary of RMB 6500
• Airfare Reimbursement of $600 USD paid after 6 and 12 months ($1200 USD in total)
• Contract Completion bonus of RMB 2000
• Shared fully furnished apartment. Our apartments are spacious and bright and include: Western-style bathroom and kitchen, TV and DVD player, ADSL Internet access, landline phone, air conditioning and government central heating in winter.
The rent of a shared apartment is paid by Joy School, utilities like water, heating, Internet access and electricity etc. is paid by the teachers living there.
• Singe fully furnished apartment (if available), with the same standard as the shared apartment. The rent of this apartment and its utilities are paid by the teacher.
• Official working VISA, work permit, foreign expert’s certificate and residency permit.
