Supeek is a US based full service educational consultancy that specializes in the adult second-language acquisition domain. To further expand our network of English Teachers/Instructors, we are looking for a pool of experienced ESL Tutors to join our team. This is a home-based online tutoring position, where you will teach from your own home using your own internet connection, and own computer via Skype and our virtual classroom. Selected candidates will be placed into our teacher pool and contacted when a tutoring opportunity arises.
Starting Date: Summer 2013
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching general, business and test-preparation courses as well as pre-academic and composition courses, as needed. Members of the Supeek Teacher Pool will hold at least 1 office hour per week, will attend at least 1 teacher’s meeting a week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development, and the company’s educational committees is expected. The teaching assignment may involve evening and/or weekend classes.
Teaching:
To teach English from 5 up to 40 hours per week (depending on the demands of the company)
To arrive online punctually for classes (min. 10 minutes before the lesson begins)
To assign appropriate home-work before each class
To review each home-work or student output and document the feedback
To assist the Head Teacher with student testing and placement
To teach English to a high standard
To prepare and deliver lessons with the aim of achieving the objectives and outcomes of the syllabi
To use teaching techniques that are appropriate to the level and needs of the students making every effort to create a positive learning environment enabling students to participate purposefully in the lessons
To make lessons stimulating and enjoyable with particular emphasis on the practical use of the English language (e.g. speaking and listening skills)
To maintain excellent class administration including lesson preparation, class registration and monitoring student progress
To advise the Head Teacher of any student who is misbehaving in class, absent from lessons; or any student welfare concerns (e.g. bullying, students who are withdrawn, not joining in) with particular attention to individual students
To complete individual student Progress Reports and issue final Certificates to students
To advise and encourage students
Academic:
To be willing to share best practice with colleagues
To assist in the development and implementation of curriculum, policies, and procedures for the program
To write teaching materials, lesson plans and syllabi as needed
To evaluate student understanding and skills
To administer placement and exit tests
All staff should show respect for the opinions and feelings of students, and colleagues no matter what their religion, race, age background, gender or sexual orientation.
Minimum Qualifications
Excellent English skills
Experience working online as English Instructor/Teacher
Enthusiastic
Punctual
Organized
Computer literate including Skype and screen sharing
Reliable internet connection, good computer, quality headset
5-40 hours/week availability
Ability to telecommute
Ability to work nights and weekends
Desirable Qualifications
Certification for teaching English, completed or currently in progress
Bachelor’s, Master’s in English, in Linguistics, TESL or ESL, speech, education or related field
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a related field
5+ years of experience in teaching
Experience in educational assessment, research, statistics, and quantitative analyses
Experience writing custom content, curricula and tests
Fluency in 1 or more foreign languages
High computer literacy, power user of Office suits, Mac, tablets or smart phones
Compensation
Starting pay is depending on your skill set, portfolio and experience. Raises are given based on the results you deliver with your students after hire.
