About the Company:

The U-Learn Education Group manages 3 of the top IB (International Baccalaureate) schools in Shanghai, China. The IB curriculum – widely used in the EU and private schools across the globe – is quickly gaining popularity in China as a premier alternative to the Chinese national curriculum.

U-Learn also manages the Joint-US High School Program at Suzhou Public School in Suzhou, which is 30 minutes away from Shanghai. In addition, U-Learn provides US college counseling services to all high school program students.

About the Role:

• Manage, create, and deliver lessons for primary, middle, or high school students based on a given IB curriculum (all materials provided)

• Perform the duties of a full-time IB teacher as outlined by the IB Organization

• (Visit http://www.ibo.org for more information)

Principal Accountabilities:

• Thoroughly understand and effectively implement the IB curriculum (based on subject area) and assessment criteria as set out in the IB Subject Guide

• Regularly log onto the IB OCC (Online Curriculum Center) to access current and relevant teacher support materials and guidelines

• Work collaboratively with other subject group members to develop common unit plans and assessment strategies, share resources, etc.

• Attend and participate in regular subject group meetings

• Maintain student records; communicate these records with students and parents

• Maintain deadlines for submitting unit and lesson plans, as directed by the Subject Leader

• Actively participate in school events, assemblies, etc.

Requires (Functional/Technical Skills & Knowledge):

• Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents

• Ability to communicate both orally and written while taking into account ESL community members

• Skilled in working with a range of students of different abilities and backgrounds

• Skilled in (or willing to learn) inquiry-based learning and differentiation

• A sound understanding of contemporary teaching and learning theories and practices in English as a Second Language teaching

Required / Recommended Background & Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of teaching experience

• Previous experience teaching the IB curriculum

• Previous experience with ESL students

• Minimum Bachelors degree relevant to subject position (English major for English position, etc.)

• Valid teaching certification / license

About the Role:

• Manage, create, and deliver lessons for primary, middle, or high school students based on given and/or collaborative-based materials

• Perform the duties of a full-time ESL instructor, including but not limited to maintaining office hours, group planning, curriculum management, and parent meetings

Principal Accountabilities:

• Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons to a range of classes, ages, and English language proficiencies

• Preparing and setting tests, examination papers, and exercises

• Making and providing appropriate feedback on oral and written work

• Devising, writing, and producing new materials, including audio and visual resources, either individually or with teammates/co-teachers where appropriate

• Organizing and being involved in social and cultural activities such as sports competitions, school parties, assemblies, dinners and excursions

• Attending and contributing to training sessions

• Basic administration, such as keeping student registers and attendance records

Requires (Functional/Technical Skills & Knowledge):

• Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents

• Ability to communicate both orally and written while taking into account ESL community members

• Skill to work with a range of students of different abilities and backgrounds

• Capacity to adapt to a range of oral and written classroom and assessment tools based on student levels

Required / Recommended Background & Experience:

• Minimum Bachelors degree

• 1-2 years of teaching experience is preferred

• Valid TEFL/TESOL/CELTA Certification (minimum 120-hours; Online TEFL Certification Courses will NOT be accepted)

• Previous experience with ESL students is preferred

• Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply if they have a valid NON-ONLINE TEFL/TESOL/CELTA Certification

US College Consultant

Current Openings:

• U-Learn Headquarters (Shanghai)

Start Date: ASAP

About the Role:

• Serve as a knowledge expert and counselor for a given number of Chinese high school students who are interested in studying in the United States for undergraduate college & university studies

• Represent U-Learn through both in- and out-of-office activities and programs

• All training is provided on location

Principal Accountabilities:

• Provide guidance to high school students on proper strategies for the college application process

• Meet with an allotted number of high school students on a regular basis (individually) to discuss their IB portfolios, records, resumes, standardized test scores, and other materials that encompass their college application portfolios

• Advise students on their college essay topics

• Guide students through the college essay writing process and provide insight on editing where necessary

• Contribute to student group workshops

• Contribute to weekly in-company meetings regarding strategies or other matters

• Assist in planning college admissions officers’ visits to U-Learn school campuses, and accompany admissions officers when necessary

Requires (Functional/Technical Skills & Knowledge):

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Willingness to communicate with students both during normal working and non-working hours

• Teaching, mentoring, and/or tutoring skills

• Firm understanding of the US college application process

• Satisfactory command of English language and grammar, both oral and written

• Prior experience with the SAT/ACT system and tests

Required / Recommended Background & Experience:

• Minimum Bachelors degree

• Valid TEFL/TESOL/CELTA Certification (minimum 120-hours; Online TEFL Certification Courses will NOT be accepted) or 2 years of post-undergraduate working experience

• Previous experience with ESL and/or high school students is preferred

• Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply if they have a valid NON-ONLINE TEFL/TESOL/CELTA Certification
