Brife Intruduction
Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology is one of the universities with undergraduate program under the Hebei Provincial Government. Established in 1941, Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology started the undergraduates program in 1977. In 1999, HNUST was authorized by China Ministry of Education as one of the first key bases for training teachers of vocational education. In 2003, it was renamed as Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology and was authorized to grant the Master Degrees. The University recruits students from 25 provinces and municipalities directly under the Central Government of China and now there are 24,000 full-time undergraduates and 13,000 adult learners.

Now HNUST consists of Qinhuanggao Campus, Changli Campus, E &A College and Campus at the Developing Zone, and is ?well?equipped with modern and top teaching facilities---with 1900 acres500, 000m2 teaching building, teaching and research instruments and equipments worth of RMB1,000,000,000 and 1,200,000 books in the library. Now there are 1,200 full-time teachers, among whom 450 are professors, 500 with doctor degrees and master degrees. Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology Transactions, for Natural Science and for Social Science are issued both at home and abroad.

There are 21 educational departments. 44 undergraduate specialties and 59 technological studies are run at the school, covering disciplines of Agriculture, Engineering, Arts, Science, Law, Economy, Management and Education and four disciplines are authorized to grant master degrees. It is equipped with 1Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for High Education in Hebei Province, 1 provincial lab, 19 institutes, 45 labs and 1 Analytic and Testing Center and 121 teaching practice bases. In addition, China Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour and Social Security has subsequently set up Rural Vocational Training Center and National Vocational Capability Appraisal Center.

The University lays emphasis on promoting research and reformation, which has made tremendous progress. Since the 11th five-year National Developing Program , the University has undertaken 779 projects funded by national and provincial funds, 499 for scientific study and 280 for social study, and won 112 awards for scientific research , a national award for teaching , 11 awards for teaching from Hebei Province and 55 for scientific study. 4,200 papers have been published, 98 of which indexed in SSCI and A&HCI; and 230 books are published.

Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology adheres to integrating production, education and research to facilitate the practical transformation of scientific research fruits and to fully display the advantages of agricultural specialty. Since the 11th five-year National Developing Program, the University has successfully breed 29 new species with our own property rights, and won 11 provincial awards for scientific progress. One of them is YanLong, a new species of Chinese chestnut and a new tomato have been funded by national funding for production transformation.






Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology is located in the world-famous summer resort and coastal city, Qinhuangdao. Its former body, Hebei Vocational and technical Teachers College, was a regular institute used to train vocation-educational teachers and advanced professional talents in particular. From its foundation to its development, after many setbacks and hardships, bearing the sincere affection of all the faculty and staff and with the earnest expectation of all walks of life, the university has gone through more than 60 years. The name of this school has been changed many times since its foundation in 1941. In 1985, to meet the needs of rapid development of the national vocational education, its name was ever altered to be Hebei Agrotechnical Teachers College. It was developed as the first regular college, to specifically train agricultural and vocational teaching staff and advanced talents with specialized skills with the level of Bachelor's Degree. In 2003, its name was replaced by Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In November 1999, this university, together with other 19 universities such as Tianjin University and Tongji University, was designated to be the first and key building base of the national vocation-educational teaching staff by the Ministry of Education. In 2000, the former Qinhuangdao Coal Industry Management School was incorporated into the university. In 2001,the university successfully passed the evaluation of qualification of regular college teaching work organized by the Ministry of Education, which marked that the university has entered a brand-new developing stage. The campus abounds with vitality, elegant environment, green trees, blooming flowers and tranquilly winding path. The smooth roads, the beautiful garden, the lotus pool with gentle ripples, the luxuriant lawn, row upon row of building, the lively playground, and multi-function teaching bases mingle into plenty of magnificent pictures. At least 50,000 students graduated from this university are devoting themselves to the national modernization development. To carry out the nation and Hebei educational invigoration plan, the university has drawn an excellent blueprint to be a campus with thousands of acres and students. It has formed the structure of One university with three campuses, Qinhuangdao Campus, Changli Campus and E&A College. Three campuses with complementary advantages develop supportively and coordinative. It has extended the university's running function and development room. At present, the campus of this university occupies a ground space of 1200 acres in all. The building area is 320,000 square meters. The university boasts of more than 600 professional teachers, including at least 300 professors and assistant professors and more than 100 teachers above the level of Master's Degree. There are 11,000 full-time students. The total value of the fixed assets is 210 million RMB and that of experiment equipment is 60 million RMB. The library boasts a collection of 540,000 books. And what's more, the library has established some net service, such as digital books and digital newspapers and magazines in colleges and universities in Hebei Province, and image stations centering on China Periodic Magazine Full-text Database, China Excellent Doctoral and Master's Degree Paper Full-text Database and China Patent Topic Abstract Database. In 2001, the campus net was built up. The exit wide-band has reached 100M. The university has established 17 departments, two secondary colleges, 44 laboratories and professional research sections, 8 practice plots, 8 practice teaching bases and 2 secondary school attached to it. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labor respectively set up the training center of rural vocational and technological education and the identifying institute of vocational skills in the university. Now the university has formed 26 undergraduate majors, more than 30 associate majors and 1 province-level key developing course, preventive veterinary medicine. The structure has come into being that many courses and majors, such as Agronomy, Industry, Science, Arts, Law, Economy, Management and Education, are developing side by side and coordinately In the practice of serving vocational education, the university has further rectified its guiding principles for running it, That is: generally implement the nation's education policy on the base of Hebei and to train practically advanced and specified talents to meet social needs as the main task. It gives priority to regular education, establishes lifetime education system and internationally corporative running-school system and timely promotes post-graduate education; insists on the corporation of normal and un-normal education, serving the combination of general and vocational education, teaching-centered to integrate teaching, researching and social service, it is striving to build itself to be multi-courses advanced normal university with distinctive features. With the sweeping of the opening-up wind, Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology holds up a bright sky with high responsibility and mission feeling. In the middle of 1990s, 138 county and municipal vocational education centers were founded successively, carrying the hope of vitalizing economy of Hebei Province. And Hebei came to be an outstanding figure all over the country in vocational education. The success has injected a vigorous impetus to the development of Hebei and its economy, and meanwhile brought brand new opportunities and challenges for the development of the university, too. The whole faculty are now united together and dedicated to the same cause of seizing opportunities for faster development. The university has already invested a lot on setting up teaching facilities such as the language labs, mini classrooms, multimedia classrooms, campus net, electronic reading rooms and other installation. Apart from this, many reforms have been made out in the plans, contents and methods of teaching, too. Via exploration and practice, the university centers on the principle of laying solid theoretical foundation, broadening professional horizons, strengthening practical skills as well as developing quality in an all round way, and now have simply formed the course system of the university which has already achieved good results in practice. In 1994, the Commission of Education made an official promulgation on the teaching schemes of agronomy education developed by the university itself, one of which, the reform and practice of agronomy education, won the first prize of provincial teaching achievement of the year 1997. The teaching pattern of the university has scored great successes. It was elected as advanced unit of social practice for 19 years successively, and received the joint commendation of the Publicity Department, the Commission of Education, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and other departments four times. In the year 1999, it was made advanced unit by the Sports Commission for implementing the national sports standard. For last 20 years or more, the university has provided the society with technical guidance and about 100 projects have created economic efficiency up to 50000000 RMB. The national advanced classes came to the fore in large numbers in the university. Up until now the students of the college have published about 2000 essays and popular science articles. More and more students gained rewards in the national contests: 2 students won the glorious title of ten-star technology for provincial college students, one was cited as a technology pacesetter of the college students in Hebei, 10 were rewarded in the National Challenge Cup for the college students and the Applied Scientific and Technological Invention Contest, 6 won the second prize in the Mathematics Jianmo Contest for the National College students. In 1994, 2 students of the university had the honor to report to Vice Premier Li Lanqing on their achievement in the Contest of the applied scientific and technological Invention. Many graduates in this university have come to be advanced individuals as national outstanding graduates and educational workers. Some of them even had the chance to have been cordially interviewed by President Jiang Zeming and other leaders of the party and country. In order to improve the overall scientific research levels of the teachers and the teachers and the students' practical ability, our university, on one hand, established and perfected six organizations such as analysis and test center, laboratory of molecular biology, plant cells engineering research institution and so on; on the other hand, we have worked out preferential policies to encourage teachers to actively develop and extend research findings. All these good scientific research extending environments have impelled a large number of higher standard achievements coming out . For example, in recent years, two achievements including the research about "colibacillus neopili antigeon" and "colibacillus neopili genetic cloning and sequence analysis" directed by our university have got financial aid from the national natural science fund. In 1999, the late variety of peach------"21st century" with good storage and transport cultivated by our university which has international advanced level , on the behalf of Hebei province, took part in the World's Kunming Exposition of Horticulture. It was in the list of the one-hundred-key-scientific and technological achievements that the Ministry of Forestry spread to the whole nation and also got the second prize of 2002 Hebei scientific and technological progress. In the recent ten years, our university undertook successively over 200 scientific research projects national grades, provincial ones and city ones, among which 148 findings of scientific research have passed evaluation, over 40 ones getting provincial and ministry rewards, and 55.5% findings of scientific research became prosperous engine for peasants who got rich by scientific research in the forefront of agricultural production. Since 1984, our university has taken the task of scientific and technological support to the poor mountain area——Qinglong County: in the work we took the way of combining blood transfusion with hematopoiesis, in the light of practical problems in Qinglong popularizing technique of Boer Goats hybrid improves the local goats, Chinese chestnut male flower thinning technique, and new variety of wheat------Qin Wheat No.3 with multiresistance and saving water. All these achieved better social benefits, and more than 1,000,000,000 RMB economic benefits totally, which brought us many rewards many times from national ministries and commission provincial departments including over 120 individual rewards. In recent years, many teachers have published almost 4000 academic papers and 50 monographs and textbooks. Meanwhile, thousands participated in academic exchanges at home and abroad and also went abroad on an investigation, which established a friendly relationship with other ten foreign universities and scientific research institutions in German, Japan, Britain, America and so on. In addition, cooperating with 加拿大荻森海特学院, we set up E &A College, which has enrolled students since 2002. Our university starts two main academic journals-----Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology academic journals: natural science one and social science one, are issued in public at home and abroad. Our vocational and technical education-training center has been undertaking the train of the managerial staff from the northern fifteen provinces and cities and that of vocational teachers from rural vocational schools. In order to meet the need of training and improve the training conditions, our university invested more than 11,000,000 RMB to set up higher standard training building which can hold at least 300 trainees boarding and lodging at Golden Beach and school headquarter separately, equipping with computer rooms, reading rooms and multifunctional halls. Since the eighth "Five Plan", the various training classes have been run 198times totally, cultivated more than 6000 various people, fulfilled 42 key research projects with national grade, 56 ones with provincial grade, distributed over 300 papers about vocational education and published 20 odd monographs on it. Two academic journals run by the university ——"Journal of Hebei University of Science and Technology" Natural sciences and Social sciences are distributed in the whole nation. The center of vocational and technical education undertakes the tasks of training vocational management cadres and professional teachers from rural vocational schools from 15 provinces and cities in the North. For the need of training, the university have invested more than 11,000,000 yuan to build higher level training buildings respectively at Golden Beach and major campus of the university, which can hold more than 300 students eating and living, provided with computer room, reading room and multi-purpose hall, Under the leadership and support of the governments at all levels, our university has found a successful way of running school for the development of our country's vocational education and the service to the local construction. Therefore, many mass media like the Guangming Daily, China Youth, China Education and Chinese Education TV reported our university 400 odd times successively; the provincial leaders such as Niu Maosheng, Zhao Shiju, Guo Gengmao, Liu Zuotian, Long Zhuangwei, and Liu Jiansheng gave guide time and again. On 1st. August 2001, accompanying by the provicincial leaders, Comrade Li Lanqing, the former member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, inspected personally and gave full affirmative for the running of the school. Reviewing the past, there had been innumerable great achievements; looking forward to the future, there is still a long-term arduous task to take.
