Job Description

Live, Teach, and Enjoy Life in Wuxi With Shane English School 15,800 Rmb/m

Live, teach, and enjoy life in Wuxi with Shane English School. Nestled between Shanghai and Nanjing, Wuxi’s low cost of living is a great opportunity for teachers to live well and still save loads. The school is offering new teachers a monthly salary of 15,800 RMB, 4,200 RMB flight reimbursement, a 3,000 RMB end of contract bonus, and one week of comprehensive training paid at 1,000 RMB.

Classes and working schedule:

Students at Shane English School in Wuhan are broken up into two age groups: Very young learners (3-6 years old) and young learners (7-12 years old). The classes are all manageable sizes with a maximum of 10-12 students. Teachers work a maximum of 22.5 hours a week but enjoy a guaranteed salary for the weeks when they work less than 22.5 hours.

There is a tailored curriculum for teachers to follow, and all teaching guides, materials, and resources will be provided by the school. There will also be a teaching assistant in every class to assist with preparing activities, checking books, and maintaining order in the class.

Training, support, and development:

Previous teaching experience is not essential as all new teachers will undergo a week of initial training. This week will be paid at a rate of 1,000 RMB for the week. This training will be conducted by the Academic Manager or Director of Studies to ensure all teachers are completely comfortable and confident in teaching the Shane English curriculum. Workshops will also be held throughout the year to help teachers develop their skills, while the Academic Manager may observe some classes to provide feedback on areas of improvement.

Accommodation and orientation:

All new teachers will receive full assistance in the process of getting settled in Wuxi. They will be picked up from the airport and provided with a hotel for the first week. A member of staff will be assigned to help the new teacher find suitable accommodation close to the school, sign contracts, open a bank account, and anything else they may need to get completely settled in Wuxi. Shane English School prides itself on always ensuring teachers are well taken care of, especially in the first few weeks.

Get to know the the school owner:

Shally Shi is the co-founder of the Wuxi school. A friendly lady with a lot of love for Wuxi city, Shally co-founded the school with a partner back in July of 2007.

Shally attended Guangxi University where she received a degree in English Education. She is an experienced teacher and still helps out in the classroom at the Wuxi school today.

While written work is always important, Shally notes listening and speaking to be the two most important parts of learning English. She hopes that teachers at her school can encourage students to practice their speaking as much as possible, and create a classroom environment where students aren’t shy to speak.

When asked about her vision for the Wuxi school, Shally says she would like to expand the school to ten branches across Wuxi city, with an excess of a thousand students.

And a little bit more about Wuxi:

Wuxi is now a Tier 1 City in Southern Jiangsu province, China. It borders two other large cities, Changzhou to the west and Suzhou to the right. Additionally, the Intercity High-Speed Railway links Wuxi directly to both Nanjing (1.5 hours) and Shanghai (45 minutes).

Wuxi is noted for its amazing scenery which can be taken in at one of its many parks surrounding Tai Lake, all of which can be accessed on the modern and efficient metro system.

There is a wide variety of bars, clubs, and restaurants catering for everyone (Western and Chinese), as well as historic museums, art galleries, hiking trails, riverboat tours, temples and the famous Lingshan Buddha.

There is a lot to do in Wuxi. It offers so much to its already thriving expat community.
