Open English – See the Real China!
Our location
We are in Yulin, Shaanxi, China. It’s just about right in the middle of northern China, north of Xi'an, south of Inner Mongolia, east of Chengdu, and west of Beijing. We have all the modern conveniences of a big city, but it’s still a place that has been relatively untouched by western influence, and the countryside is close. If you are looking to explore authentic Chinese culture, this is the place to come.
Our school
Open English has been in operation in Yulin since 2003. We believe that the education system focuses far to much on tests, and far too little on actual communication. We allow our teachers to experiment with their teaching methods to find the way that is best for them.
What we are looking for
Native English speakers
At least a bachelor's degree in any subject
TESOL and/or TEFL certificate (if you have less than two years teaching experience)
Able to complete at least a one-year contract (those who wish to stay longer are more than welcome)
You will work 20 hours a week, with two consecutive days off each week
We do not require
You are not required to be able to speak, understand, read, or write Chinese. You are not required to have previous experience. You do not have to pay a deposit for your apartment. You do not have to pay for any training that might be required.
Regarding your free time
As far as we are concerned, what you do with your free time is up to you.
What we are offering
6,000 RMB per month (for the first year)
While that may seem low at first glance, consider the following:
Full month's pay every month even if your hours are below 20 hours a week, including those months that include vacation
Z-visa and living permit paid for by the school
Free living accommodations, including gas, electricity, water, internet, etc.
8,000 RMB year-end bonus
100 RMB per hour overtime (if you work more than 20 hours in a week)
The only thing you will be required to pay for are food and other things unassociated with the job, and the cost of living is relatively low here.
Additional points of interest
In Yulin, you can go bowling, play basketball, swim, hike, go on random motorcycle rides, play poker, play pool/snooker, play soccer, and more. And if you feel like going to a bar and singing karaoke, you can do that too.
Contact information
If you are interested in working with us, please send your resume, recent photo, scans of your college/university degree, TESOL and/or TEFOL certificate(s) (required if you have less than two years teaching experience, helpful if you don't), and passport, and any questions to:
Michael – wumingde9@hotmail.com
These documents will be used to secure an invitation letter to send to you, which you would then bring to your local Chinese Embassy or Consulate to get a visa to China. We will not share them with any third party.
Feel free to ask me any questions. I have taught here in our school for more than six years, and I plan to teach here for many more.
