Introduction:
The 21st Century Life Science Foundation, was founded in 1993 as a professional education institute for life science. The company is comprised of a large life science academy, a science focussed middle school, several science museums and a specialised school for disadvantaged urban children that may otherwise find it difficult to find a school.
Three openings exist for the position of Science Instructor on a one year, renewable contract. Starting Apr/May/June 2012, the main role of the candidate will be to teach experimental science to children who attend our academy in addition to their regular schooling.
Job Description:
- Teaching of science classes to elementary and middle school-age students (age 7 - 14yrs). Typically 20hrs per week. (There is a textbook published by the Foundation, and all materials for experiments are provided).
- Teaching of conversational English to small middle school classes. Typically 3hrs per week. (Lesson planning will be the responsibility of the applicant but is done during working hours).
- Helping writing and publishing the company textbook
- Revising, editing and writing experimental lesson plans for the foundation.
- Proof-reading of translated documents.
- Co-ordination of camp activities (summer and winter science camps for students).
Benefits:
- 34 million Korean Won annual salary (allows for a very comfortable living in Seoul).
- Return air ticket from/to country of residence.
- Furnished accommodation included.
- Low tax percentage covers, pension and government health insurance, including dental.
- 10 days paid vacation in 1st year.
Working Hours:
Working schedule is a little complicated but flexible-
- 40 hours per week over 5 days; 9am - 6pm.
- Work days are flexible Tuesday through Sunday and the company is closed on Mondays.
- Work is required most weekends (2 weekend days guaranteed off per month).
- So have Monday off and choose 4 more days per month (2 weekdays and 2 weekend days)
- Work late until 10pm once per month (compensated with half day off the next day).
Mandatory Qualifications required:
For Specialist Life Science E7 visa application-
- Masters degree, science major, or...
- Bachelors degree (BSc), science major and at least 1 yr science related work experience, or...
- 5 years experimental or science related work experience.
Other requirements-
- Teach science and some English conversation in a creative and fun way.
-.Have an obvious desire to work with young children.
- Citizen of native English speaking country only
- Must be able to work weekends and be flexible to the companies needs.
