Job Description

Teach at an International School in China

compensation: depends on experience and qualifications

employment type: full-time

Looking for a change? Want to pay off your student loans? Studying for an advanced degree? All these are possible in China.

ACES in Tianjin, China, is looking for a qualified teacher to teach international high school students who will be attending junior college next year in Seattle. You job is to produce and deliver high-quality lessons in all 4 skills using an American curriculum. In simple terms, you need to get these students ready for complete English immersion in about 1 year. This is real teaching and not baby sitting. You have to produce verifiable results. Management is both supportive and progressive and is interested in whatever and whomever can do the job.

I should tell you that I am one of the international teachers here and not a recruiter.

Tianjin is a beautiful city (by Chinese standards) that has managed to hold onto some semblance of uniqueness. The old concession districts have been largely preserved and they are fun to explore. Beijing is 30 minutes away by bullet train. The school is a 10-15 minute taxi ride from downtown and 45 minutes by bike. Flat as a pancake here so biking is easy.

The compensation package includes accommodation, flight, visa, insurance. You will pay for your own food and that is about it. That's why it is so easy to save serious money in China. Many foreign teachers have easily paid off their student loans or saved for a home in the States.

You should have at least a BA (higher is better) degree, 2 years minimum of real teaching experience (Chinese visa requirement), TEFL or equivalent, and, hopefully, a teaching credential. Don't let age or race stop you - this school's interest is in getting good teachers and nothing else. You should also be good at working with your others - no cowboys, please. The school is trying to improve its programs and we all have to work together.

Questions? E-mail me and let's talk. - hrtj@acesedu.cn
