The job

Urumqi EF English First opened in December 2001 and has fast become the most progressive language training provider in the west of China. In 2004, EF Urumqi opened a second school. Situated in the very heart of Asia, Urumqi is the perfect place to experience both teaching and living in the cultural melting pot of China’s far west. We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible and highly motivated language instructors to join our dynamic team of creatively minded individuals.

Due to our current success, we have recently increased the capacity of both our centers. If you have prior qualifications in the ESL field and are interested in spending at least a year in this remote and colorful city then this is the place for you.

As a leading language centre, our courses range from young learner and adult education through to curriculums specifically designed to meet the needs of a rapidly developing nation. A brief overview of our courses can be seen below:

Young Learner Education
English Classes for Young Learners are incredibly popular throughout Asia as parents strive to prepare their children for the modern world. We offer Early Learner courses for pre-school beginners of English, High Flyer courses for students aged from 7 to 10 and Trailblazer courses for students aged between 11 and 14. Upper Teenager Courses for 15-18 year olds. We also offer Summer and Winter Camp Programs, weekly social clubs and extra-curricular activities. EF Urumqi is a Trinity Cambridge GESE Exam Testing Centre and we offer exam preparation for Trinity exams.

Adult Education
Urumqi EF English First offers General English, General Business English and IELTS Preparation courses for adult students. We also offer weekly Social Clubs and specific interest clubs.

A maximum of sixteen students per young learner and adult class allows for a high level of student interaction in a comfortable and relaxed environment.

Corporate Language Training
In addition to the courses outlined above, our centers offer Corporate Language Training courses to both National and International companies based within the city. Training ranges from teaching general business English through to teaching a range of more specialized, skill based courses.

Resources
To assist our teachers in creating interesting and stimulating lessons we provide a comprehensive range of flashcards and supplementary materials. Teachers are encouraged to access and adapt these resources to provide informative, authentic, imaginative and stimulating classes.

Professional Development
Emphasis is placed on professional development and academic workshops are run on a regular basis to provide teachers with the opportunity to share their ideas and gain useful information that they can adapt and use in their classes.

Teachers are observed on a regular basis and constructive feedback is provided to assist them in their personal development.

Urumqi – The City

Urumqi is the capital of Xinjiang; its name means “a beautiful pasture land”. The Silk Road passed through Urumqi for centuries.

The weather in Urumqi has a big difference between its summer and winter season. For July, the temperature is around 23.7 °C, while it can be −12.6 °C in January.

Train is convenient to travel to major cities in China. Bus or taxi will be a good way to get around in the city.

Urumqi has regional items as well as products from Russia and Mongolia. The Grand Bazaar will be a good place to shop for unique goods.

Tianchi, also known as “Lake of Heaven,” is a must see. The lake is about 30 miles from the city.

Main Responsibilities

· Maximum of 20 hours teaching per week

· Lesson planning

· Use audio / video materials in classes

· Cooperate with the CM and DOS in ensuring the constructive communication and efficient operation of the centre

· Assist in the placement testing and interviewing of new students

· Carry out teaching related responsibilities including, but not limited to demonstration classes, conversation clubs, tutorials, seminars and presentations

· Attend centre social events

Compensation

· Excellent salary: 6,500 RMB per month (6,000 RMB during first 3 months)

· Free accommodation: Western style, near the school

· Flight allowance: 9,000 RMB half payable after 6 months, half after 12 months

· Legal ‘Z’ work visa

Requirements

· Degree

· TEFL certificate

· Native English speaker from UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa

· Plenty of passion and energy

· Teaching experience preferred but not required
