Position: Oral English Teacher (International Class; Middle and High School Students)
The school:
This school is one of the top two Middle/High Schools in Shandong Province, enrolling many gifted students. The successful candidate will teach in the recently formed International Class, which teaches the U.S. College Board’s AP program. The school campus is large with numerous buildings; each classroom is fitted for audio/video presentations.
Student profile:
International Class students are highly motivated 15 to 17 year olds, who anticipate attending foreign universities. Their English language levels are generally much higher than that of the average Chinese high-sch ool student.
City of Yantai:
Yantai is a medium sized coastal city, located in northern Shandong Province on the Bohai Sea; it is situated approximately 185 kilometers from Qingdao. The city’s environment is considered to be one of the best four in China, with clean air, warm summers, cool winters, and glorious springs and autumns. In summer there are numerous sandy beaches in the area. There is also excellent shopping, and if required, western foods are readily available in local supermarkets. There are air-links to cities throughout China, as well as international flights to Korea and Japan. Ferries run from Yantai to Dalian, Inchon Korea, and Japan.
Teacher Responsibilities:
• No more than 20 teaching hours per week. (Classes = 45 min)
• Prepare quality lessons
• Track student’s performance and offer remedial assistance to students requiring it.
Remuneration Package:
• 8,000 RMB net per month
• Single off-campus apartment in a modern building close to the school. Apartment< /span> comes equipped with flat-screen TV, fridge, water-cooler, cooker, microwave, etc.
• Full Z-Visa
• Return air ticket to home country at end of contract.
• Fully paid health insurance
• 5 day workweek with weekends off
• 2 hours of free Chinese lessons per week
• 3,000 RMB bonus at end of contract.
Requirements:
• In accordance with Chinese government visa rules, applicants MUST hold a passport from one of the following countries: Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or Ireland. Unfortunately other passport holders cannot be considered irrespective of their qualifications.
• You MUST hold a bachelor degree (higher or equivalent)
• You MUST have at least 12 to 18 month’ s teaching experience post University
• You MUST have a TEFL/TESOL certificate
• Experience teaching TOEFL is highly desirable
• Teachers qualified to teach academic subjects such as Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, English Literature, and History are especially encouraged to apply, as teaching positions in these subjects are likely to open in 2013 at substantially higher salaries.
