Teachers in China
Location: Zhengzhou, Henan, China
These teachers will be teaching in China, in the city of Zhengzhou in the Henan province. Zhengzhou is the capital city of Henan province and is located in the North Eastern part of China. It is the second largest city in central China, with a population of over 8.6 million. It is connected to all major railway, road and aviation transport networks and is just a 90-minute flight from Beijing. Zhenzhou is attractive for domestic and international investment namely in fields of locomotive (eg. Nissan) and technological development (eg. Foxconn, Apple iPhone production & assembly). It is one of China's ancient capitals with archeological evidence dating as far back as the Shang Dynasty. There are plenty of tourist attractions found in and around Zhengzhou, notably the Shaolin Temple, well know for the origins of Chinese Kung-fu, as well as the Yellow River and Song Mountain, a UNESCO Geopark site.
Bronte College's partner school, Zhengzhou 7 Middle School, was established in 1950 and has over 1000 students enrolled. Since 2005, the school was named as the Flag Ship high school in the province of Henan and its students and the school have received many awards from both the provincial and national governments.
Bronte College will honour and recognize the experience earned teaching at Zhengzhou 7 Middle School in China as the equivalent of teaching at Bronte College.
Our partner school, Zhengzhou 7 Middle School, is seeking one ESL teacher for 6 months/12 months terms:
As a Sino-Canada Program Teacher of Zhengzhou 7 Middle School, you will:
• Teach ESL under Ontario High School Curriculum to motivated students.
• Offer office hours to attend to student, parent or administrative needs.
• Attend and supervise a half day Canadian activity session on Saturdays.
• Attend school ceremonies, department and staff meetings as required.
• Prepare teaching and learning resources as required.
• Follow Zhengzhou 7 Middle School expectations and assessment criteria.
• To complete any additional duties assigned by Zhengzhou 7 Middle School.
Term
• 6 months: August 20, 2012 to February 20, 2013 and/or February 20, 2013 to August 20, 2013 (with option to renew the contract for additional 6 months)
Working Conditions
• Normal hours in a week is up to 18 hours & 2 days off per week.
• Abide and follow local public holidays and practices.
Compensation
• Equivalent of CAD$3,000-$4,000 (based on teaching experience) per month (Because of the lower tax rate in China, this salary is comparable to CAD$4,000-$5,000 per month before taxes in Canada).
• Furnished accommodation and health insurance included.
• Travel allowance of one (1) return air ticket.
You will possess the following requirements:
• University Degree related subject.
• Licensed teacher and in good standing preferred.
• Willing to relocate to Zhengzhou, Henan, China for at least 6 months.
• Experience using a computer and computer applications required.
• Excellent command of the English language.
• Other languages are an asset.
• Enjoys working in a diverse multi-cultural environment
