Harbin
Situated in north eastern China, Harbin is& nbsp;close to Russia, Korea and Inner Mongoli a and is an ideal place to be based to explore this fascinating part of the world. Harbin itself has a lot to offer, not least the beautiful Russian archit ectural influence that adds to the attraction of the city. Harbin is developing very& nbsp;quickly, but there are still many places to go which are irresistibly Chinese.
Harbin is famous for its standard Mandarin pronunciation and is an excellent place  ;to study Mandarin. As the saying goes, ‘If you want to study Chinese language, come to China. If you want to stud y Mandarin, come to Beijing. If you want to study standard Mandarin, come to Har bin.’ It can be a cheap alternative&nbs p;to Beijing for studying Mandarin, with tuit ion costing about half and housing one t hird of what it would be in Beijing  ;or Shanghai. Most universities in Harbin hav e lots of Korean and Russian students wh o come here to learn Chinese.
Harbin has four distinct seasons, each wit h its own particular beauty. Spring brings&nb sp;streets that are lined with fragrant lilac trees and abundant outdoor markets. Summer&n bsp;brings the comfortably hot weather and th e umbrellas of the numerous beer gardens  ;dotted across the city (including the world& nbsp;famous Harbin international beer festival and the accompanying music festival). Autumn bri ngs pleasant temperatures as the tree lined&n bsp;streets burst into colour. Winter, Harbin  ;is famous for the spectacular Snow and Ice Festival during January and February when the city is transformed into a luminesc ent showcase of ice art.
