Teach Academic English at Chinese High Schools & Universities!
The International Academic Alliance creates educational pathways for students at our various learning centers. Our Academic English Program is designed to prepare students for American university. AEP instructors teach students the academic English skills and competencies critical to success for English-based coursework. These language intensive courses are offered at our Chinese high schools and colleges.
About Academic English Program (AEP)
The AEP courses are designed for students to develop the comprehensive skills needed for total success at an American university. This includes:
English communication skills
Critical thinking
Standardized test preparation
College-level research
Career planning
Candidate Qualifications
Applicants must be willing to relocate to major cities throughout China
Candidates must possess at minimum a bachelor’s degree
TESOL or CELTA certification required or an experienced ESL educator
Adapts easily to new cultures, maintains enthusiasm & has an outgoing nature
*Prior experience teaching or traveling abroad is preferred. Not required.
*Master’s degree in TESOL, Education, English or Linguistics is preferred. Not required.
Responsibilities
Our instructors take ownership of the AEP curriculum development, adapt it according to the students’ needs and actively partake in fostering this unique cultural exchange.
Teachers are expected to:
Instruct in the classroom up to 20 hours per week
Spend additional 20 hours per week: lesson planning, conducting writing labs and holding 1-on-1 student conferences at their AEP teaching site
Work closely with assigned program university or AEP high school and the Director of Studies on: AEP curricula; course delivery; managing/ resolving classroom issues and program development/ evaluation.
Participate in ongoing professional development events as part of the AEP faculty, including: teacher trainings; professional mentorship with AEP’s American university faculty; curriculum evaluation & program assessment.
Provide support for students struggling with their coursework. Work with students and program director to identify and solve potential problems.
Coach students on goal-setting and developing skills for academic success both inside and outside of the classroom
Compensation
$2,000 starting base salary
Round-trip airfare and medical insurance provided
Accommodations: Private 1-bedroom apartment on or near program site
Z Visa sponsorship and assistance with all visa procedures
Employment Contract Term: 11-month teaching contract
*Possibility of a $1,000.00 bonus at the end of the contract year based on: teaching performance evaluations.
*Eligible for incremental salary increases based on the teacher’s annual performance review from peer, student director evaluations and in meeting AEP program standards.
