We Invite You to Come & Teach English on Tropical Island in the South China Sea
Starting each day in Haikou, the capital city of Hainan island, I always have a smile on my face. The sun is shining, the scent of the sea and tropical flowers waft under my nose, and the forecast says it will hit 95 degrees today. Whether you are on foot, bike, bus, or riding a scooter like me to Happy Town your journey into work will be a new adventure each day with many unique and interesting things to discover. On my way into work I pass by the park and see small groups of people practicing Tai Chi, as they do every morning. In many ways Haikou is just like the cities back home with sky scrapers, shopping malls and fast food joints, but with much nicer weather, beaches, and streets lined with palm trees!
Nibbling on some steamed buns I picked up on the way I exchange pleasantries with my coworkers as I head into the office. After gathering the materials I need for my morning classes I shoot the breeze and share new finds with the other teachers.
Our classes are really unique. The Beginners Education program is for children 6 months to age 3. At least once a week they are immersed in 1 hour of English. They attend two 30 minutes classes a day that focus on developing not only their language skills and exposure to English but their cognitive, social, and fine and gross motor skills. Each class requires a lesson plan and follows a fun and dynamic curriculum. The children absorb a surprising amount and are a lot of fun to teach.
Each teacher will teach two half hour classes in the morning and late afternoon with a 3 hour lunch break from 12:00-15:00 hrs. During the lunch break some teachers head home, some do their shopping either at the supermarket or one of the dozens of open air markets, and others like me are faced with the difficult decision of relaxing with a coconut in the park or going to the beach. All BE classes are finished at 16:15. Each BE teacher will work Monday - Friday, a total of 24 hours a week.
Once the classes are over for the day I take a few minutes to look over my lesson plans for tomorrow and make sure I’ve got everything I need. A few of us decide to grab some dinner from one of the food streets that open up in the evenings. We try somewhere new, enjoy the cool night air, tasty food, and vibrant night life together.

Happy Town English runs a progressive curriculum for children aged 6 months to 15 years old. We believe technology has it’s place in the classroom, as a tool but not a crutch. All teaching materials are provided. Coupled with the training you will receive when you arrive you will have everything you need to confidently and effectively teach your classes.
When you join our family you will get:
• 7500 RMB per month (after tax) for 24 weekly teaching hours total
• A fully furnished apartment close to the school or 1500 RMB housing allowance
Sponsored Z visa, Foreign Expert Certificate, and Medical Exam paid for by Happy Town
• Contract completion bonus of 5000 RMB
• 28 days of vacation
Schedule:
For a 24 hour per week contract BE teachers can expect to work the following schedule:
Monday to Friday 08:30 am – 16:30 pm with a 3 hour lunch break from 12:00-15:00 hrs
We are looking for 2 BE teachers that are:
• North American native English speakers
• Committed to a 1 year contract
Passionate about teaching Beginners Education
Experience working with young children in schools like Happy Town, daycare, and/or equivalent experience
• University Degree
• TESOL Certified a few exceptions maybe considered such as an abundance of experience
