About Us

Riverbridge Skills Guangzhou is a corporate training company dedicated to delivering high-quality skills training and skills development projects. Our clients include a multinational bank and smaller companies. Currently, we are looking for full-time and part-time English language trainers to resource language training projects that are in the pipeline. We have one active project that requires a replacement trainer on a part-time basis as soon as possible.

About the Position

As an English Language Trainer, you will be working at companies in Guangzhou. Each client is different but we provide Business English skills development to all. In some projects, English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is required. We try to match prior experience of the trainers to client requirements as far as possible. You will not be asked to deliver classes at more than two companies per day. Travel time between companies is considered to be part of normal working hours.
Work Hours - 40 hours per week. Any requests for overtime are voluntary and agreed in advance between the trainer and Riverbridge. Refusal of overtime has no effect on standing within the company.
Classes - 5 one-hour classes per working day.
Time - Usually normal business hours, Monday through Friday. Some clients may want after-hours classes. We try to avoid this as far as possible.
Other Responsibilities - Some lesson planning and some lesson design. Some administration, such as keeping attendance and progress records. Meetings are kept short and to-the-point.
Career Path - Lead Trainer, Training Project Manager. As Riverbridge expands, we plan to include City Manager, Regional manager, and Country Manager positions.
Required Qualifications -
Bachelors or higher degree.
CELTA (preferred), TESOL, or TEFL certificate.
5 years' verifiable work experience in any field.
Please note that our clients require independent validation of formal qualifications and work experience.
Nationality - For English Language Trainer positions, we prefer that our trainers be from the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, South Africa, or the USA.
Work Permits - Riverbridge can provide these for qualified, full-time trainers.
Salary - 23,500 yuan per month (approximately US$ 3,500 per month at the time of writing) before tax. At current Chinese tax rates, the after-tax monthly salary is 19,830 yuan (US$ 2,980). We do not complicate matters with different allowances and so on. What you see is what you get. The only exception is a project renewal bonus. If a client is delighted by your training and agrees to renew after the initial contract period expires, you will be given a project renewal bonus based on the value of the project and the number of trainers assigned to it.
Time Off - Full-time trainers are entitled to all Chinese statutory holidays off. These are the National Day holidays, New Year's Day, Spring Festival, Labour Day, Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival. In addition, full-time trainers accumulate paid leave at the rate of 1 day per full calendar month they have worked for Riverbridge (12 days over a one-year contract). Full-time trainers are also entitled to 3 days' paid sick leave per year. A doctor's note is only required in the first year for sick leave.
Probation - Riverbridge does not require a probationary period and believes that this is an unfair business practice. If we hire you, it means we have confidence in you. Should your performance fall short of client expectations, we will work with you to fix the problem. Termination for under-performance is a last resort and not something we undertake lightly.
Management - You report to a Western manager and interact with English-speaking Chinese administrative staff.

Part-time English Language Trainers will get a salary pro-rated from the full-time salary.
