Primary and Secondary Teaching Positions Available

Minerva Bilingual School

Job Description

Primary and Secondary Teaching Positions Available

Minerva School is a small bilingual (Spanish-English) school located in the center of the historical city of Gracias Lempira in Honduras. Minerva offers the community of Gracias the opportunity of a very accessible bilingual education otherwise unreachable through the public school system in Honduras. With a total of 400 students, the school has all grade levels from pre-school up to eleventh grade.

Our staff is currently composed of international teachers and Honduran nationals. We are looking for two first grade teachers, two second grade teachers, two third grade teachers, one fourth grade teacher, one fifth grade teacher, one sixth grade teacher and various secondary teaching positions available.

Previous experience working with children is necessary. Teachers are required to have a bachelor’s degree, but those with masters and experienced teachers are preferred. Teachers are expected to be a good role model for the students inside and outside of the classroom. Teachers are responsible for lesson planning, classroom organization, and discipline within their classroom, and teachers may choose to become an organizer of an after-school club or activity if they have a passion for a certain topic or sport. Spanish is not necessary, and from others' previous experiences, you can end up learning it by interacting with the children and the community.

Teachers must be flexible, passionate, organized, problem solvers, and willing to go the extra mile. We are looking for enthusiastic people who are willing to meet challenges head on with a positive outlook.

Teachers earn a monthly Honduran professor salary of 7,000 Lempira, while living accommodations and visa arrangements are taken care of by the school.

Teachers will be living in Gracias, Lempira which is a small, safe town on the base of the largest mountain in Honduras. We are surrounded by astounding natural beauty that is only topped by the kindness and generosity of the locals. Minerva helps teachers integrate into the community through the close relationship with students. A walk into town to visit the market can easily bring a hug from your own student, many waves and "Hi Miss/Mister!" from other students, and conversations with parents on what to do that is fun in town.
