2 Preschool Teachers and an Eikaiwa Teacher Needed in Matsusaka City, Mie Prefecture, Japan

Maple Leaf International School, located in Matsusaka City, Mie Prefecture, is expanding and currently accepting applications for 2 Preschool Teachers and an Eikaiwa teacher to start March 17th 2014. We are looking for positive, hard-working, professional and like-minded teachers with plenty of energy who are dedicated to the education of young children and work well with other professional teachers.

About Maple Leaf

Maple Leaf International School is located in Matsusaka City, Mie Prefecture. Matsusaka is about 1 hour south of Nagoya and 1.5 hours northeast of Osaka. There is a population of about 170,000 people, spread over an area of 623 square kms.

We are a private International School focusing on students between the ages of 2 to 6. The main area of focus of our school is our Preschool Immersion program, where children are taught an array of subjects in English 5 days a week from 3 to 5 hours a day. We also have once a week English conversation classes for students outside of the immersion program as well as a English Extended Childcare program.

As we are a private school, our school has a strong focus on customer service, and we prefer teachers who enjoy and are good at speaking and working with customers (The students’ parents).

The school houses 4 classrooms as well as a staff office, and waiting room for customers. We have a playground on site, and are walking distance to 2 parks, which we use for field trips. The school is filled with resources and materials for teachers to use.

About the positions

Preschool Teacher

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday 8:30~5:30

Maximum of 25 teaching hours per week

Preschool course lessons occur every day and are 9:00-2:00 with a 1 hour lunch break from 12:00-1:00

Afternoon lesson occur 2 to 3 times a week and are 90 minutes each from 3:30-5:00

Eikaiwa Teacher

Tuesday to Saturday: 1:00pm to 8:00pm

Maximum of 25 teaching hours per week

English conversation lessons occur once a week and are typically scheduled in the evening with the exception of lessons on Saturdays.

Teachers teach the same children every lesson, and only would be required to teach different children if substituting.

Salary:

Starting salary of 250,000yen per month after completion of probation period. Compensation reviewed twice a year during performance reviews and regular raises given to top performers.

Bonuses:

1 autumn bonus and 1 Spring bonus based on performance up to 100,000 yen each

Requirements:

Must have experience working with young children.

A degree in an education related field, or a teaching certification is an asset.

Teaching and living in Japan experience also preferred.

Preschool Teacher Responsibilities include:

-Teaching multiple subjects to children in the preschool course

-Teaching children in afternoon English conversation courses

-Supervising children during playtime

-Writing lesson plans and reports

-Creating teaching materials

-Communicating with parents

-Participating in Spring and Summer School programs

-Participating in school events such as sports day, Open School, Halloween Parade etc

-Participating in school and class field trips

-Attending staff meetings

-General classroom maintenance

Eikaiwa Teacher Responsibilities include:

Responsibilities include:

-Teaching English Conversation classes to students aged 6 to adults

-Teaching adult students in offsite locations

-Teaching Saturday preschool course and Kinder course to students aged 3 to 6

-Periodically supervising children during playtime

-Writing lesson plans and reports

-Creating teaching materials

-Communicating with parents

-Participating in Spring and Summer School programs

-Participating in school events such as sports day, Open School, Halloween Parade etc

-Participating in school and class field trips

-Attending staff meetings

-General classroom maintenance

Accommodation:

Teachers have the option of staying in a partially furnished company apartment (52,000-56,000yen per month). Accommodations are modern, 1 or 2 bedroom apartments and are roughly 40-50 squared meters (quite large by Japanese standards). No key money or deposit is necessary.

-5 flexible vacation days upon completing 6 months of contract

-5 non-flexible vacation days
