ESL Internship


What we are looking for: A motivated, newly minted or almost finished ESL major or minor, or certificate holder looking for an 3+ month internship experience teaching and working in a language school in Extremadura, Spain. This may be extended up to 9 months.

We are: a new language school founded by seasoned English professors, one an American and the other Spanish. We have over 12 years experience teaching various levels: primary school, high school, university. We are also specialized, having completed doctoral level work in English and Applied Linguistics, respectively.

We offer:
- An internship experience guided by seasoned teachers. We will teach you how to put into practice your theoretical knowledge of English teaching, giving you feedback, observing your work directly, and helping you improve. You will get experience with adults and children and will be provided adequate teaching materials on-site.
- a split internship package that will allow you to see two sides of the teaching profession: administrative and academic.


- free housing in a (shared) apartment within walking distance from the school. You will have a private bedroom, WIFI, utilities included, and a central location. Pictures available.


-All Spanish speaking environment available for those who want to practice, but not obligatory.-1hr of private Spanish class a week- a free cell phone for your personal use (you must put money on it according to the calls you make).-help with travel plans and arrival orientation.-an unmatched intern abroad experience in a little-known region of Spain: Mérida, Extremadura. You will live and work at the foot of the world's longest, active Roman bridge in a city founded in 23 BC with around 55,000 inhabitants. We offer the possibility of living amongst layers of intriguing history (Roman, Visgothic, Arabic) while also living in a small city atmosphere with all you need available and close by.


We ask:


-that you have completed 80%-100% of the TEFL certificate program.-that you have good and current recommendations from your program and other work experiences.-that you have some experience working with children.-that you work 10 hours in administration and 10-15 hours teaching per week, for a total not to exceed 25 hours a week.-that you work 3 months with us (possible extension), with a flexible start date (October 2013 can be negotiated).
