Guangdong Wuyi University (WYU) was founded in 1985 as one of China’s full-time comprehensive universities. It is located in Jiangmen City (a well-known hometown of the overseas Chinese),Guangdong Province in the Pearl River Delta which is close to Hong Kong and Macau. Jiangmen City has jurisdiction over five cities (Xinhui, Taishan, Heshan, Kaiping and Enping) historically called Wuyi, from which Wuyi University derives its name.

Spread over more than160 acres ,WYU has fifteen schools and departments with six major disciplines, thirty-six undergraduate courses and thirteen Master’s Degree programs covering economics, law, literature, science, technology and management. WYU recruits undergraduate students from fourteen provinces including Hong Kong and Macao and recruits graduate students nationwide. Presently there are 20,000 students including more than 13,000 graduate and full-time undergraduate students.

Since its founding, WYU has enjoyed the hearty concern and utmost support of overseas Chinese and compatriots in Hong Kong and Macau. It strengthens its academics with substantial exchanges and cooperation with thirty-two accredited universities and colleges in twelve other countries. Every year WYU sends over twenty highly qualified teachers to England, United States or Japan for advanced study or exchange and sends over ten students abroad for study.

As one of the first institutions of higher education authorized by the National Ministry of Education to recruit international students, WYU has enrolled over eight hundred students from United States, Mexico, England，Japan ，Poland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russian, France，Vietnam, Yemen, Peru and more engaged in both long-term and short-term of study.
