Full-time teachers (with ESL, EFL, TESOL, CELTA certification or experience)

Culturlingua Los Reyes

Job Description

Full-time teachers (with ESL, EFL, TESOL, CELTA certification or experience)

Culturlingua Los Reyes is a private language school to serve English students in the town of Los Reyes, Michoacán. We offer English courses to students of all levels and ages.

Full-time teachers (Teachers with ESL, EFL, TESOL, CELTA certification or experience) will be expected to teach daily Monday to Friday. Depending on enrollment, teachers may be needed to teach either Saturday morning or afternoon. Contact teaching time will not exceed 32 hours a week.

Teachers are offered a 20 or 24 weeks (5 to 6 months) teaching contract and are paid twice a month. The wage varies according to the value of the Mexican peso, but it is adequate to live in Los Reyes. Accommodation is provided. Teachers are responsible for their food and drinking water. Specifications about your accommodation in Los Reyes will be provided in your contract.

This is not a ‘get rich’ job, but it does offer a unique opportunity to visit and experience the rich culture of Mexico, and enjoy teaching in a small, friendly language school.

Students at Culturlingua range from 3 years to 60 years old. Class size does not exceed 10 students, class materials are provided (teachers books, CD ROMs, Cd player etc), but you are welcome to bring any additional materials (exercises, games etc) that students would enjoy using and help learning with. Classes are offered between 8am and 8pm (the last classes finish at 8pm) and teachers may be assigned to classes during these hours. Student – teacher stability is very important for the students here in Mexico… Many teachers stay for just 1 or 2 months, which don’t give students stability in their classes. With this in mind, you will be assigned classes at the beginning of the semester and you will work with that group for the whole semester. Class changes are kept to a minimum. In reality, teachers are assigned split shifts, but Culturlingua does not expect teachers to stay at the school throughout the day.

Benefits

> $5000 pesos per month (approx 450 U.S dollars).

> 2 weeks paid vacation at Easter or Winter. If you stay through this time

> Paid accommodation.

> 5 or 6 months contract with a possibility of extension.

> Free Spanish classes.

Most teachers find this sufficient for living expenses as well for some recreational expenses. As in most teaching positions, teachers are not paid for lesson preparation time or for attending the occasional one-hour teachers meeting

Should teachers decide to leave this position before the end of the contract, Culturlingua asks that teachers give a minimum of four weeks notice, in order to find a suitable replacement.

Responsibilities

> Maximum 32 hours teaching a week

> Teach classes between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Saturday

> Classes are no more than 10 students in size

> Attendance of regular teachers meeting

> Preparation of lessons

For each course, teachers are provided with a teachers guide, suggesting how the lessons be taught. However, and additional ideas and suggestions regarding teaching the material will be greatly accepted. The school has resources available to teachers; additional books, charts, flashcards and access to a photocopying machine, however, any material you bring with you will be an asset.

The school has an informal, friendly atmosphere. Teachers are treated with respect and in return they should consider themselves as ambassadors of Culturlingua within the city. Shorts, flip flop sandals, mini-skirts and messy t-shirts are not appropriate.

While Culturlingua acknowledges that teachers come here to experience Mexico and will want to make new friends and socialize, it also requests that they show commitment to the school and the teaching of English in the school. We hope that new teachers will become part of our professional team, enjoy their stay at Culturlingua and have a great experience here with us.
