Job Description

Teacher positions in Zambia

We are currently recruiting for teachers, with a broad range of experience, for a family of five new schools in the NW province of Zambia which have been established on behalf of First Quantum Minerals, which through its subsidiary, owns 80% of Kansanshi mine, the largest copper mine in Africa.

About the Schools
The first schools will begin admitting pupils from September 2013, and all five will be open by the start of 2014. In total the schools will have places for more than 2,500 students of all ages, provide more than 200 teaching and support posts and offer global best practices in teaching and learning, curriculum, assessment, student wellbeing and leadership in an African context.

The schools will be on two sites close to the two mining regions of Kansanshi and Kalumbila. Both regions will have an all-through Trust school, with capacity for more than 1,000 pupils, and extensive facilities. In addition, there will be two preparatory schools with capacity for up to 100 pupils each, which will feed into a private secondary school, with capacity for up to 400 pupils.

The Curriculum
All schools will follow a similar, internationally recognised and accredited, curriculum with particular focus on reflecting the Zambian and African culture and a commitment to FQM’s values of industriousness, integrity, sustainability, resilience and respect. There will be an emphasis on opportunities for education beyond the classroom – particularly outdoor activities.

About Zambia and the CopperBelt
The NW province of Zambia offers outstanding opportunities for exploring and understanding this rapidly changing part of Africa. Whether it is driving through the many game reserves, enjoying a range of outdoor activities or learning about the local culture, Zambia is a life-changing country to work in. Teaching in Zambia will allow you to gain international experience, the chance to meet and work with expatriates from all over the World and to help shape a new community and family of schools.

Qualifications and Requirements
We are seeking a broad number of teachers, both primary and secondary, specialists and generalists, experienced and relatively new to the role to staff all five schools. However, the following criteria would be an advantage:

· Bachelors degree and a recognised Teaching licence/qualification.

· English Speaker with a minimum of 2 years full time teaching experience

· Flexibility and an understanding of issues facing schools in developing countries is essential. Previous international experience is a distinct advantage

· This is an exciting but challenging environment; Resilience and a sense of humour are pre-requisites!
