Job Description

Qualified Teachers Needed in Saudi Arabia

Summary:

If you are a native speaker or Arabic-English bilingual, and have a CELTA or near equivalent plus two years of classroom experience, then I have some Saudi ESOL posts that may interest you. They are for a September 2012 start at Jazan Economic City Polytechnic - this is a great opportunity to join the team and support young Saudis in a preparatory programme.

Details:

Jazan Economic City Polytechnic is an exciting new project in the south west of Saudi Arabia. The college has been established to provide an education for young Saudis, to prepare them for entry into the workplace in a range of technical areas. The prep. year that we are recruiting for will be two semesters, while the technical education is a further four. These last two years are run in partnership with Algonquin College from Ottawa, Canada, http://www.algonquincollege.com/. The college itself has been developed under the auspices of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority http://www.sagia.gov.sa/ and its own website is http://www.jecpt.com/en/Default.aspx.

The core course has a substantial ESOL content, but students also have courses in science, numeracy, soft skills, IT and study skills, all taught by suitably qualified staff. The ESOL courses will lead towards IELTS and TOEFL. The college is well resourced and there is a learning support team in place for both group and one-to-one interventions where needed.

Due to new student enrolments I am hiring a team of lecturers to start from September 2012.

Qualifications:

We are seeking male native speaker or bilingual (English-Arabic) staff with the following background and experience:

first degree and either CELTA or DELTA or an MA in TEFL or Applied Linguistics and at least two years of experience as an EFL/ESL teacher.

We also welcome experience of English for Academic Purposes and/or Technical English, experience of IELTS, TOEFL or similar examinations and experience of vocational education. Teachers must also be able to make clear and cogent grammatical explanations to low level students as well as provide a motivating classroom environment.

There is a programme of teacher development activities including seminars and observed classes and a desire to grow as a teacher is very important to this role. We are also keen to hire teachers who can provide extra-curricula input.

Compensation:

The salary scale is in the range USD 40,500-44,000 pa and individual salaries will be calculated according to an incremental scale.

Contracts will be for 12 months, renewable. A 90-day probation period at the beginning of employment will be observed.

The employer will provide a furnished apartment per teacher (with their family if they choose to bring family members with them). The housing complex includes a small gym, laundry room and a security guard.

In terms of healthcare, insurance coverage by a health insurer will be provided by the employer. Medical assistance can be obtained in Jazan or any other city within the Kingdom

Transportation - shuttle buses will transport teachers to and from the college at regular intervals.

Life assurance/death in service benefit – In case of work-related deaths / accidents, expat workers are entitled to occupational hazard benefits from the General Organization of Social Insurance (GOSI) in Saudi Arabia.

The employer will pay for all costs related to legalisation of the teacher’s stay in the Kingdom, be that through the extension of their visit visas (during the probation period) or the issuance of their work visas and residency permits, along with associated medical and travel costs.

Working hours – a 40-hour workweek (Saturday to Wednesday) is typically split as follows:

25 hours: teaching

3-5 hours: ‘office hours’ (teachers available to answer any questions from their students)

10 – 12 hours (or more): lesson preparation.

Holiday – Muslim and Christian holidays will be observed. In addition, teachers will get academic holidays in line with the academic terms (typically up to 1.5 calendar months per year, this year in July/ August). Teachers are expected to be in the college prior to the start of any term so as to be fully prepared and are expected to remain until they have completed all their duties, including testing and reporting of student results. The long holiday is in the summer from July to August.
