INTERLINK Language Centers, and English Gate Academy

Marlboro College Graduate School, INTERLINK Language Centers, and English Gate Academy are pleased to announce teaching fellowships for 2012-13. The fellowship is designed to prepare qualified and innovative teachers of English who base their instruction on learners and learning, communicative use of language, cultural understanding, group learning, and reflective practice.
Fellows enhance their teaching effectiveness by completing Marlboro College’s MA in Teaching the English Language (MAT-ESOL) and teaching an INTERLINK curriculum at one of English Gate Academy’s multiple teaching sites on campuses of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation of Saudi Arabia, an agency of the Ministry of Labor.
Fellowships consist of two summers of full-time study in Vermont, USA, complemented by online instruction between summers and two years of full-time teaching in Saudi Arabia.
BENEFITS
• Fifty percent (50%) tuition scholarship, valued at $10,400, contributed by INTERLINK
• Monthly fellowship stipend of $2,500* for the first academic year of teaching (September 2012 – June 2013)
• A starting annual salary of $36,000, following completion of second summer session at Marlboro College
• Additional salary increase of $2,000* to make minimum annual salary $38,000 per annum when MA degree is conferred
• An annual bonus of 5% for each year of EGA teaching service completed
• Salary increase of 6% for contract renewal at the the completion of fellowship
• Additional salary credits for superior proficiency in a second language, Peace Corps service, previous ESOL teaching experience in the Middle East, and others
• Round-trip transportation to and from Saudi Arabia each year (valued at $2,000 - $4,000)
• Local transportation to and from the campus each day (valued at $2,500)
• Furnished housing (valued at $16,000)
• Medical insurance (valued at $5,000)
• Work visa procurement (valued at $1,500)
• Local holidays, plus paid 45-day annual vacation
* Untaxed by Saudi Arabia
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
1. Minimum two years English language teaching experience with adult learners
2. Minimum one year teaching experience in a culture other than Fellow’s own
3. Teaching experience with absolute beginning language learners
4. Bachelor’s degree that demonstrates academic ability (by Saudi government regulations, online degrees are not acceptable)
5. Demonstrated superior English language proficiency and communication skills
6. Strong computer skills
Preferred
1. Demonstrated commitment to students, colleagues, and the profession
2. Exceptional professional or humanitarian work experience, such as US Peace Corps or other intensive, service-oriented, full-time work in cross-cultural settings
3. English language teaching experience with Arab students
4. Demonstrated ability to use experience as a source of learning
5. Creativity and flexibility to adapt to a learner-centered, needs-based program, using heuristic approaches
6. Ability to adapt to a way of life requiring understanding, conformity, and flexibility
7. Demonstrated sensitivity to and respect for cultural differences
8. Proficiency in a language other than English
9. Agreement with the pedagogical principles utilized by the sponsoring organizations (humanistic, student-centered, project- and experience-based)
ACADEMIC CALENDAR
May 4 – June 14, 2012. Online coursework (4-5 hours per week)
June 15 – August 10, 2012. Face-to-face coursework at Marlboro College Graduate Center, Vermont, USA
September 2012 – June 2013. INTERLINK teaching at one of EGA’s TVTC centers in Saudi Arabia
July – end of August 2013*. Second summer of coursework at Marlboro College
September 2013 – July 2014. Second year of INTERLINK teaching for EGA at TVTC in Saudi Arabia
