TED-ANKARA FACT-BOOK SCHOOL DESCRİPTİON

TED, The Turkish Education Foundation School

With a view of the inland lake, Golbasi, and the modern skyline, but a quiet 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Ankara, stands the huge awe-inspiring buildings and campus of what we just call TED. On a high hill from which your ears may clear when going down into the city, we experience even a different climate from the city. İn the winter, there is sometimes fog over the lake, and clouds and winds fly free over the well heated campus. This campus of large buildings houses a school program of over 6,000 children from K-12 including the National Curriculum, recently added İGCSE, and the full İB program.

Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK greatly emphasized the importance of education upon the founding of the Turkish Republic. Within this framework, Atatürk requested and guided the establishment of the Turkish Education Association (TED) in 1928 for the sake of promoting qualified Turkish schools. The school's emblem reflects the history of its founding with the crescent moon from the national flag, the torch as a symbol of education embraced by the association and five stars to show gratitude and respect to the five original administrative committee members.

TED Ankara College was the first school established by the Foundation in 1930 and the first private Turkish school using English as the medium of instruction. Today TED Ankara College is a continually developing family with more than 5,500 students, 530 teachers, 230 employees and 26,000 alumni.

The school was housed in the center of Ankara until, bursting at the seams, the new campus was opened in 2003. The high school moved first and then in 2006, the remainder of the school followed. The İB program now ten years old, opened in 2000. Due to a shortage of university seats in Turkey, the school is seriously determined to offer the highest quality program so our graduates will be successful on the National University Entrance exam each year. The foundation hosting the school is presently planning to open its own university in the near future. A few of our students go to the United States or Canada, and some other countries for university.

The salary and benefits package includes visas, travel to Turkey and back after 2 years, houslng with heating, warm lunch daily and private health insurance. Local medical care is excellent. Lots of English is spoken. Less than three hours from the school are the skı mountains for the winter. İn the spring and summer, within an hours flight you can be on the beautiful aquamarine seawaters of the Aegean or Mediteranean. Theater, opera and sports are here. Living in Ankara, all of Europe is a short economical flight away. Use the key words of “tourist” and “Turkey” on Yahoo and start to explore the rest. So, you will work HARD here, but consider the level of PLAY that is available!
