Magong is a small seaside city where you can find almost everything you need. Locals are relaxed and friendly and it's a great place to immerse yourself in Taiwanese culture & language. Penghu's pristine beaches and rocky coasts are fit for snorkeling, windsurfing, fishing, diving and more. There are scores of beautiful islands for you to visit and explore while here and interesting local food and people to meet.
Penghu is a small somewhat isolated place where few people speak English. The summer is long sunny and very hot while the winter is very windy and chilly! Life in Penghu suits someone who is outgoing and independent. There are few foreigners here and if you need to live somewhere with a lot of expats and bars (there are a couple), Penghu is not the place for you. The position:
1 year contract & ARC
Salary NTD550-600 per hour
Between 18-20 guaranteed teaching hours per week
No set office hours - prepare lessons in your own time
Working hours generally fall between 2pm-8:30pm Monday - Friday (with the occasional activity on the weekend)
Paid Holidays include Chinese New Year (approx. 1 week in Jan or Feb) + other national public holidays
Apartment at school (or rent elsewhere) - 1 bedroom, bathroom and living room available for rent. 3000NTD inc. all utilities and internet access.
The school environment is friendly and welcoming. There are 4 Taiwanese English teachers and 2 foreign teachers. The school focuses on practical English to pre-school through to elementary school age. There are also various other classes including adult and high school students. We have a well developed curriculum that aims to cover not only speaking and listening but also reading and writing.
Qualifications:
1. Native speaker of English
2. Degree from a recognized university
3. Passport from either US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa
4. Passion for teaching children and adults
5. Energetic and outgoing personality
6. Ready to commit for one-year contract
7. Teamwork spirit
8. Flexible and excited about learning another culture
9. Clear diction and good classroom management skills
We are looking for an outgoing, friendly, co-operative, flexible teacher who has the ability to teach pre-school - adult levels with a high level of enthusiasm and dedication. This job requires a strong commitment to the school and students and we expect our teachers to go the extra mile, while hoping we can offer them an enjoyable place to work and grow as a teacher.
