Immediate need for English Teachers with Volunteer Program in Costa Rica!
English Volunteers for Change (EVOLC) in Costa Rica emerged from the government-sponsored initiative, Costa Rica Multilingüe, which seeks to create a multilingual country by 2017 by improving the English education in schools and communities in need. EVOLC together with its volunteers offers free English classes to residents in need in rural/impoverished communties, public schools, and public and private organizations. With the help of our committed volunteers, we are able to enrich Costa Ricans with the English language skills in order to get better jobs, a better education, and broaden their futures. EVOLC is the very best volunteer organization for teaching English in Costa Rica!
Job description:
Volunteer teachers will live with wonderful host families in rural and urban communities throughout the country during their volunteer work. They will be responsible for teaching English classes approximately 20 hours/week and preparing approximately 20 hours/week. Classes are held Mon-Thurs providing volunteers with long weekends to travel and explore Costa Rica!
Our program is unique in that we provide free English classes where there is an immediate need to learn the language. Our volunteer teachers offer their services to local residents of rural/impoverished communities, professionals from the tourism sector, public school students, as well as employees of businesses and organizations.
When: Next orientation is March 5, 2012. We also have start dates later in the year in May, June, and September.
Program length: options range from 5 weeks to 1 year
Qualifications:
*University degree
*TEFL (or the equivalent) certified or several years of teaching experience
*Independence
*Willingness to adapt
*Native English speaker
*Organization and responsibility
*Experience living in another country
*Commitment to service and volunteerism
*Ability to relate and communicate well with others
Programs and Program Fees:
Teaching Assistant with National Learning Institute- $1,350 for 3 months
Corporate Responsibility, Teacher of Business English-$500 refundable deposit
Local Development, Teacher in Tourism Communities- $415-515/month
Public School Assistance, Teacher in Public School- $415-515/month
Short-term Community Service, Teaching/Tutoring/Conversation Classes- varies
What is included:
- 3 meals a day
- Lodging
- Transportation
- Teaching Materials
- A 3- 5 day intensive orientation program in San José
- Ongoing support from the EVOLC Program Coordinator
- Site visits from the Program Coordinator
- Mid-term meeting and final meeting
