Job Summary:
The English Lecturer is primarily responsible for the preparation of materials for and the teaching and assessment of courses in English language, under the direction and supervision of the Head of English.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The employee will:
• To prepare and deliver all teaching materials, including notes, hand-outs, references, tapes and slides.
• To undertake a teaching load not exceeding 24 class contact hours per week.
• To assist senior staff in the preparation and review of course curricula.
• To supervise and/or invigilate mid-semester and end-of-semester examination.
• To prepare and assess all homework, class tests and exercises and examination.
• To maintain proper records of all assessments and to provide such information as may be required by the Head of English, including the preparation of student progress reports.
• To keep a record of student attendance at all classes, in accordance with current College policies.
• To maintain high standards of student discipline in all classes.
• To attend departmental meetings and participate fully in all departmental activities.
• To assist in the induction of new students and to participate in the student tutor system.
• To undertake other ad hoc duties as directed by the Head of English and to deputize for the Head of English during latter’s absence.
• Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities.
Education/Licensure:
Essential: PhD holder in English Language, English literature, TESL or any related area.
Professional Experience:
Essential: Minimum of five (5) years post-qualification teaching experience.
Essential: Teaching experience should cover a range of levels from elementary to advance.
Desirable: Teaching experience of English for Specific Purposes (ESP).
Specialized Knowledge:
Essential: Knowledge of current developments in some area of Health Education.
Personal Qualities:
Essential: Strong communication skills to interact and communicate with all levels of staff and students.
Essential: Commitment to achieving high academic standards.
Essential: Enthusiastic and well-organized.
