Job Description

English Teachers (Hanoi, Vietnam)

The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations.

English Teachers (Hanoi, Vietnam)

British Council Hanoi is opening a new branch in 2012, and we are looking for two enthusiastic, adventurous and highly skilled teachers to join us in launching and growing our brand new centre.

Would you like to join us? Would you like to be there at the beginning with us and help make it happen?

We are starting small with classes at weekends and on three evenings a week, for children and teenagers, in a smart modern centre inside a school in West Hanoi. We fully intend this new venture to grow into a large and established British Council operation in the heart of a new residential zone in the capital of fast developing Vietnam. You will work in a team of four members (including academic coordinator and resources/customer service coordinator), closely supported from our main centre about thirty minutes away.

We take training and development seriously, and you will be invited to in-service training sessions at the main centre, and if appropriate, to study for the DELTA, and/or specialised Young Learner qualification TYLEC. You may also have the opportunity to undertake marketing activities such as visiting local schools, contribute to British Council’s varied teacher training and materials development programmes and train to be an IELTS examiner.

You will have a first degree and a DELTA (or equivalent advanced qualification), or at least an internationally-recognised entry level (i.e. CELTA or equivalent) qualification, together with a minimum of two years post-qualification relevant EFL experience and an interest and commitment to further training. You should also have a high proficiency in English and be able to demonstrate extensive young learner teaching experience, as well as creativity and passion for teaching, and a solid track record of delivering quality in the classroom.

For more information and to apply, please visit our website at http://www.britishcouncil.org/learning-teachingjobs.htm. Interested candidates will need to complete a Professional Profile available from the website and email this to the attention of the Regional Teacher Recruitment team at EAteacher.recruitment@britishcouncil.org.sg by 2 January 2012 (5pm Singapore time).

The British Council can offer an excellent package for the right candidate, including flights from the UK (or equivalent location) to Hanoi, baggage allowance, settling-in allowance and medical insurance. Salary is paid in USD and ranges from US$2,906 to US$3,689 per month. Income tax of 15% to 18% is deducted at source. The starting point on the scale depends on your qualifications and experience.

Please note that applicants applying from within Vietnam for network posts in the country will be considered for locally contracted posts only.

The British Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all of its partners to share this commitment. British Council appointments are subject to Criminal Records Bureau checks in the UK and equivalent systems overseas.

We regret that only short-listed applicants will be notified.
