Teachers Needed in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia

Berlitz Al-Ahsa consists of two men's and two ladies' language centres in Al-Ahsa, situated in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The city is located at Al-Ahsa Oasis, the largest oasis in the world. Our language centres are part of the international network of Berlitz language centres and fully apply the Berlitz teaching methodology for the benefit of our customers. We are currently expanding our centres' operations and are seeking a number of qualified and experienced ESOL instructors to come here as soon as possible to teach English on one-year renewable contracts.


Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

• Classroom instruction in the main Berlitz English language programs and supplementary programs such as TOEFL preparation or phonics/literacy

Advantage: Full training in the Berlitz Method is given to all new teachers

• Thereafter, teachers are required to attend regular teaching workshops and may be assigned additional training as required

• Berlitz language programmes utilise the world-renowned Berlitz Method, in which all speaking and learning is conducted in the target language. A communicative approach is used, based on listening and speaking, supplementing study with relevant reading and writing exercises. Class sizes are limited to 15 students or less for a maximum of student/teacher interaction

Teaching practice: Berlitz classes are organised via units of 45 minutes, with students normally taking 2 units a day. The Berlitz English programme is organised into 10 levels, which take the learner from absolute beginner to native-like fluency. Each level takes between one and two months to complete, depending on the number of students in the class


Working Conditions

• Working hours: Contract is for 8 hours per day: 7.5 hours of classroom instruction and 0.5 hours class preparatory and administrative work

• At times of exceptionally high demand, instructors may be required to conduct up to 7.5 hours per week of additional classes as paid overtime

• Centre opening hours are from Saturday to Wednesday, with a half day on Thursdays. Classes may sometimes fall on a Thursday and sometimes in a split shift

• Instructors may not give private tuition outside the proper course of their employment with Berlitz Al-Ahsa


Qualifications and Experience

• Applicants must be native-born English speakers

• Applicants must have nationality of one of the following countries: U.S.A., Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa

• Applications from married couples encouraged

• One of the following combinations of qualifications and experience, or equivalent, required. Qualifications may be in any subject unless otherwise stated

- BA + two years' teaching experience in an independent school in a Western country
- BA + PGCE (or BEd) + one year's teaching experience in an independent school in a Western country
- BA + PGCE (or BEd) + successful completion of NQT year (or one year's teaching experience in a state school in a Western country)
- BA + CELTA or equivalent + three years' TESOL experience
- MA + CELTA or equivalent + two years' TESOL experience
- MA in Applied Linguistics (or DELTA) + one year's TESOL experience
- MA in other education- or language-related subject + CELTA or equivalent + one year's TESOL experience

• Other relevant qualifications and/or experience of a similar standard may be considered


Salary

• Starting basic salary is dependent on qualifications and experience and includes a monthly transportation allowance

• Teaching overtime is compensated at a rate of 1.5 times an instructor’s basic (non-overtime) hourly pay rate

• All compensation is tax-free

• At least 8 days’ (normally 2 weeks’, 1 week for Eid al-Fitr and 1 week for Eid al-Adha) paid leave for public holidays

• Air passage to Saudi Arabia and back to point of origin on conclusion of the contract

• Return air passage to and from point of origin provided, each annual leave

• Annual salary increase, dependent on performance
