English teacher to start January 2, 2012 in Isla Mujeres
La Gloria English School, Isla Mujeres (near Cancun, MX) is hiring an English teacher to start January 2, 2012. La Gloria English School is a small non-profit with the mission of giving local people the opportunity to learn English regardless of financial resources. We teach students from 4 yrs through adult. We have informal, dynamic classrooms with lots of oral repetitions and practice, less reading and writing. The goal is for our students to use spoken English to make a better living in the tourist economy.
Qualifications:
1. native speaker of North American English,
2. bilingual in Spanish.
3. diploma in Education, preferably in Spanish or English
4. training or experience teaching EFL or Spanish.
5. lesson planning/teaching experience,
6. have lived abroad in a developing country for at least 3 months,
7. willing to care deeply about the students,
8. willing to work cooperatively with one other teacher, including share bath and kitchen.
9. willing to submit to a US/Canadian background check.

The Benefits:
1. Free housing above the school includes utilities, wireless internet, washing machine,
(living quarters are private, kitchen and school are not)
2. $550/month living stipend paid in pesos equivalent
The position:
1. 7-month contract starts January 2, 2012 – 40 hr wk.
2. Teaching people from 4 yrs to adult, 4 to 5 classes/day,
3. Extensive lesson planning required, no text used in the classroom.
4. Major focus is teaching orally, with group oral exercises, gentle competitions and games; written work is the exception, not normally used in the classroom.
5. Possibility of teaching off campus – to employees at local businesses.
6. Contract renewal for one year will be considered (Aug 1, 2012 to July 31, 2013).
