Experienced American Teacher Trainers with CALL experience needed in locations throughout Brazil

Must have US citizenship, an MA in TESOL, and four years of teacher training experience.

The EL Fellow will hold webinars (language maintenance webinars and also introduction to basic classroom activities and ECA/A/L resources – or other) with teachers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and region. The EL Fellow will also travel to meet and observe teachers to follow up on the webinars. The EL Fellow will offer language maintenance webinars for those around Brazil who are interested in keeping their language skills active. These webinars for teachers and learners will not only improve the quality of English instruction in Brazilian public schools and others within the country, but will also provide an opportunity to include American cultural elements for the teachers. Preference is for a strong background in general English with experience in CALL and familiarity with webinar technology.

The Fellow will also spend about 10% of his/her time providing guest lectures on American culture as outreach to classes at the binational center, public schools and other institutions that teach English, as well as occasionally participating in English teaching conferences, presenting on EFL methodology. S/he will occasionally develop activities with the English Access Microscholarship Program students – the program is happening at the binational center 2011-2012.

Eligibility requirements:
• U.S. Citizenship
• Master's degree with a focus in TESL/TEFL experience
• Senior Fellows must have minimum four years of teacher training experience; overseas TEFL experience is highly desirable.

Assignments are for a 10-month period beginning in February 2012, following a mandatory pre-departure orientation for selected Fellows in Washington, DC.

Senior Fellows serve primarily as teacher trainers and may be engaged in supervision, advising, ESP instruction, curriculum/materials development, test design, assessment, evaluation, programming, research, and outreach projects.

The English Language (EL) Fellow Program promotes English language learning around the world and fosters mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries. The program places highly qualified teachers in funded professional positions on projects initiated by U.S. embassies in all regions of the world. It is an opportunity for ESL practitioners to enrich their professional development as they contribute to cross-cultural awareness throughout the world.

The EL Fellow Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. As a program administrator, Georgetown University's Center for International Education and Development recruits applicants for approximately 100 positions each academic year.
