Algonquin College – Kuwait (AC-Kuwait) is seeking applications from ESL/EFL instructors who are currently residing in Kuwait or will be residing in Kuwait by August 2015. Opportunities for both full-time and sessional instructors are available.
AC-Kuwait is a branch campus of Canada’s Algonquin College. When we open in September 2015, we will be offering a comprehensive English and Academic Foundations (EAF) Program. The program will employ a combination of full-time and sessional instructors and we welcome applications from qualified ESL/EFL Instructors residing in Kuwait for either position. Full-time and Sessional Positions Available
Position Overview
Reporting to the Chair, EAF Program, you establish a positive, supportive learning environment for your students and facilitate and guide their learning through the provision of highly engaging, interactive and effective lessons delivered face-to-face and through a Learning Management System.
You consistently, competently and confidently use a wide range of educational technologies – including interactive white boards and students’ own electronic devices – to make students’ engagement with learning motivating and ubiquitous.
Key Responsibilities for both Full-Time & Sessional Instructors
• delivering regularly scheduled instruction
• ensuring student awareness of course learning outcomes, evaluation techniques and requirements for success and progression.
• providing tutoring and academic advising for students both in and out of class
• providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources including educational technologies and the College approved Learning Management System
• evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of students’ work within assigned courses
• developing and creating a learning environment that is conducive to success for all students
Additional Responsibilities for Full-Time Faculty:
• consulting with program and course administrators and other faculty members, advisory committees and a variety of potential employers and students
• defining learning outcomes and evaluating and validating these outcomes
• exploring and analyzing new instructional designs and educational technologies and helping colleagues incorporate their use into lesson plans
• participating in departmental meetings and reviews, including the development, review and revision of curricula
• participating in the development and implementation of departmental and institutional enrollment management strategies
• facilitating and participating in professional development activities during non-teaching periods
• liaising with community members, assisting with program and College promotion and advising and assessing applicants
• remaining current in the field of study and maintaining awareness of emerging trends and practices related to teaching , learning in higher education and international education
Required Qualifications & Experience
Full-Time & Sessional Faculty
• Near-native English language skills required. Native English language preferred.
• Experience and demonstrated competence using in-class educational technologies. Experience utilizing a Learning Management System preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to engage students and facilitate their learning, retention, progress and success.
• Computer literacy and competency for both administrative and academic purposes
Additional Requirements for Sessional Faculty
• Minimum of an Undergraduate Degree plus completion of an internationally-recognized ESL/EFL Teacher Certification Program (e.g., CELTA). Preference will be given to those with graduate Certificates, Diplomas or Degrees in teaching English as a second language (TESL).
• Minimum of two years’ experience teaching ESL/EFL/Foundation with preference given to those with Academic ESL/EFL and international (especially MENA) experience.
Additional Requirements for Full-Time Faculty
• Minimum of an Undergraduate Degree plus a Graduate Certificate, Diploma or Degree in teaching English as a second language (TESL) that was a minimum of one year in duration (specify institution, length of program and year of completion). Preference will be given to applicants with Master’s Degrees in Education, Linguistics or TESL (specify institution and year of completion).
• Minimum of three years’ experience teaching ESL/EFL/Foundation with preference given to those with Academic ESL/EFL and international (especially MENA) experience.
• Experience developing, adapting and reviewing curricula and instructional designs and techniques.
• Experience participating in peer evaluations, mentoring and professional development preferred.
• Knowledge of language and educational software programs and apps preferred.
