Job Description

Recruiting Native English Speakers in Mohammedia

The American Language Center (ALC) of Mohammedia, Morocco is now recruiting native English speakers for the new term starting January 3, 2015.

Teachers should be well qualified and able to teach a range of ages from Young Learners to Teenagers and Adult level classes. This position offers a highly competitive salary for Morocco, allowing the teacher to live comfortably here in the country. This includes a housing and transportation stipend, sick leave, a month of vacation, and other benefits as well.

The ALC of Mohammedia has been serving the Mohammedia community since 1989 by providing English classes each term to more than 1800 students from all age groups. It is located in the heart of the once called "city of flowers", an average sized town between Casablanca and Rabat.

All of our teachers are qualified teachers of English and encourage students to participate in extra curricula activities. They enjoy a friendly, supportive working environment that helps them to facilitate their language classes effectively. They are also part of the broader family of ALC’s, the American Cultural Association (ACA) which employ several hundred teachers and support staff throughout the Association. In fact, every year, teachers participate in an annual conference where they meet up with fellow teachers from other centers.

The ALC's pedagogical philosophy is that of a highly student-centered, communicative-based approach to language instruction that best facilitates student learning. The ALC strives to expose students to as much authentic language in context as possible and to provide constant opportunities to express themselves in their new language. The ALC exposes students to an “North American style” classroom rapport encouraging full participation in topics of interest that are relevant to student needs. This methodology differs greatly from what the majority of students who come to us are used to and is part of what makes the ALC so attractive to our clientele.

Visiting and non-Moroccan teachers also benefit from their teaching experiences at the ALC’s in that they learn about Morocco, its people and culture through exposure to not just to their Moroccan colleagues but also by getting to know their students and engaging them in conversation and discussion in the classroom and extension activities.
