Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs)

Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program

Job Description

Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs)

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program is Japan's largest and most reputable program that brings young professionals from 43 countries around the world to work full-time in Japan

With JET, you will gain work experience abroad and explore a rich and historical culture while receiving excellent benefits—including a comfortable salary, pre- and post-departure training, round-trip airfare to Japan, health insurance, and more. The available positions beginning in late July 2016 are Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs).

ALTs: Participants engage in English language instruction. ALTs are placed mainly with local boards of education or public elementary, junior high, and senior high schools throughout Japan. When working as an ALT, participants “team-teach,” most often in pairs with a Japanese teacher of English. Japanese language proficiency and formal teaching experience/certification are beneficial for your application, but neither are required.

CIR (Coordinator for International Relations): Participants engage in internationalization activities, such as planning events, translation, interpretation, hosting foreign delegations, etc. CIRs are placed in offices of local authorities or related organizations. You must have advanced Japanese ability (approximately JLPT N2 or higher) to qualify for this position.

All majors are welcome to apply! All applicants must be U.S. citizens, and must possess a Bachelor’s degree no later than July 15th, 2016.

Please find more information about the JET Program, instructions on how to apply, and our online application form on our website, http://jetprogramusa.org. All applications must be received no later than November 13th, 2015.
