Native English Speakers in Huajuapan de Leon

Universidad Tecnologica de la Mixteca

Job Description

Native English Speakers in Huajuapan de Leon

We are looking for qualified (B.A. + CELTA/TESOL or M.A. in a relevant field) native English speakers with two years classroom teaching experience, preferably overseas with young adult learners. Your certificates must be apostilled for immigration purposes. Applicants should be prepared to arrive in Mexico by the end of February 2016.

The department focuses on professional development and we are looking for motivated, self-starters who are willing to participate in projects outside of classes. Experience with Cambridge ESOL exams is a plus.

A Bachelor’s degree is a minimum requirement for teaching at the university level in Mexico, so we cannot consider applicants who do not have a Bachelor´s degree. Specific TESL/TEFL training is also a requirement of the university’s Academic Council. Spanish ability is not required, but makes life easier.

The approximate salary is $14,000 Mexican pesos a month after taxes for teachers with a relevant Master’s degree, and $12,000 pesos per month after taxes for teachers with an undergraduate degree. The salary fluctuates with the number of days in the month. It is a very good living wage by local standards.

Other benefits include an optional fund-matching savings plan in which one twelfth of the monthly salary is taken out each month and matched by the university. All the money from the contributors is put into a savings account and each July the money is paid out. At that time the employees receive two months’ pay plus a share of the interest accrued, apart from their regular July pay. There is also a Christmas bonus equal to one month’s pay, so in a sense the university pays 15 months’ salary a year.

Employees are registered with Mexican Social Security. This covers general health and emergency care, and there is limited dental coverage as well. Social Security also runs a housing scheme and teachers earn points towards a housing loan. There is also a social security daycare center for those with small children.

Additionally, the university pays into a government sponsored pension plan (AFORE), similar to the US 401K pensions, and provides life insurance. The university has five weeks paid vacation a year: two weeks are at Christmas time, one week at Easter, and the other two weeks are at the end of July. There are also various national holidays, providing for long weekends throughout the year.

Please send applications by e-mail to The Director of the UTM Language Centre: sean@mixteco.utm.mx
