OVERVIEW

Job Title: Lecturer of English

Division: SOSH Department Language Center

Reporting Relationships: Director of Language Center

Role Summary: To plan, design and deliver English language educational training.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, select, and adapt teaching materials and professionally deliver them across a range of modules or within a subject area, using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods.

• Design, mark and give feed-back on appropriate assessments.

• Within the subject team plan, design and develop learning outcomes and materials.

• Contribute to the revision and improvements in the curriculum content and delivery.

• Support student projects and placements.

• Act as a personal tutor.

• Co-ordinate and lead small modules, in own subject area.

• As module leader or tutor, co-ordinate with others (including support staff and academic colleagues) to ensure student expectations are met.

• Contribute to recruitment activities e.g. attendance at open days and conducting visits.

• Participate in and develop external networks.

• Contribute to internal and external quality assurance processes.

• Participate in team meetings, departmental School meetings and committees.

• Ensure the implementation of the DI’s policies and regulations within the remit of the potholder’s duties.

• Undertake other professional and academic duties as directed by the director of the Language Center.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Experience and Knowledge

• 5 years of experience in a similar teaching role.

• Educated native or near-native ability in all language skills.

• Experience in teaching graduate students.

• Record of effective and innovative teaching.

• Experience in curriculum development and adaptation.

• Experience in content-based teaching.

• Experience preferred in testing.

• Education and Certification

• M.A. Degree in TEFL, TESOL , or related field.

Required Skills

• Advanced computer knowledge and hands on experience of working with MS Office products.

• Excellent ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Strong attention to detail, accurate record keeping and database management skills
