Forget the usual overseas teaching thing ...... Get off the beaten track
Forget the usual overseas teaching thing ...... Get off the beaten track and have a real adventure of a lifetime!!!
If you’re happy working 9 to 5 in a cubicle and going home to do the laundry and watch reality shows on TV, this is NOT the job for you. Experience authentic Khmer (Cambodian) culture, by experiencing life immersed in the culture of this time-honoured place ... where time and technology still make room for historical practices, customs and culture. Teach to make a difference, and explore ancient temples in the jungle, snorkel or SCUBA on enchanted coral reefs, kayak down jungle rivers amidst towering mountains, help children improve their lives, OR stay home, do the same old thing and spend the day stuck in traffic. It’s your life – LIVE IT.
Asia English Teachers has been asked by a number of local Cambodian schools to assist them in recruiting (and training if needed) people interested in getting paid to live and experience this fascinating place. Generally our schools will want at least a 6 month or longer commitment to Cambodia. You can start a wonderful new career in teaching or gain valuable experience for your current teaching resume. If this sounds interesting to you, come and join us in Cambodia. Available jobs range from Kindergarten through University preparation courses, with salaries averaging between $1,000 and $1,200 a month. While this may sound low by Western standards, rents here run less than $300 a month for a nice place, food is cheap, transportation is even cheaper, and teachers here save money or use it to fund their own adventures while here.
Participants on the program begin in one of three categories:
Status 1: JOB READY In this category you have all the requirement for employment and feel you are ready to start immediately. Your resumes will be reviewed by currently hiring schools and we will reply with their decision.
Status 2: WANT SOME PRE-EMPLOYMENT ORIENTATION AND ADVENTURE. In this category you are fully qualified to start teaching but feel you would benefit from some local cultural orientation, Khmer language training, and a chance to get in some excitement and adjust some to the culture and time change before starting work.
Status 3: NEED TRAINING IN TEACHING (AND SOME ADVENTURE). The program requirements are simple. You must be at least 18 years of age, come from an English speaking country, and you must have a recognized TESOL Certificate (minimum 120 hour program including teaching practice with real students). If you don’t have your TESOL training, it can be provided to you as part of the program, while experiencing the exciting adventures of the area.
All participants arrive at LC-Asia's main facility in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for one of the listed start dates below. Depending on your status, you will move directly into teaching, do a short (2 week) orientation, adventure and language program, or spend four weeks taking classes in how to teach English, as well as 15 to 20 hours of Khmer language and culture classes. Participants in Training Status also gain the additional benefit of earning LanguageCorps Asia's internationally-recognized four week, 144 hour TESOL Certification. .
When you are ready to teach, program participants will begin English language teaching at a local school in Phnom Penh via Asia English Teachers educational partners.
