Teachers Needed in Shibuya, in the heart of Tokyo, Japan

Institution for a Global Society x Z-kai (igsZ) is a newly emerging afterschool for pre-K-12 students located in Shibuya, in the heart of Tokyo, Japan. The founder and CEO Masahiro Fukuhara established this visionary school in 2010 with aspirations to train and develop future global leaders. Our educational approach is grounded on the teaching of 7 essential skills correlated to leadership: execution, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, self-confidence, and liberal arts. These 7 skills are integrated into the framework of each of our courses, including:

- Kids Immersion Program
- Pre-TOEFL courses (basic English grammar and fluency)
- Speech and Debate courses
- Critical Thinking and Liberal Arts courses
- Global Leaders courses
- TOEFL® preparation courses
- SAT® preparation courses
- College Application and College Life preparation courses

Kids Immersion Program Teacher (2 year commitment)

igsZfs Kids Immersion Program is a unique curriculum that teaches children ages 6 through 12 English language skills through creative, comprehensive, and effective lessons. The KIDS Immersion Program is designed so that children are not only completely immersed in an English-speaking environment but also engaged with meaningful content, such as science and the humanities; students are further challenged to develop global leadership skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, and communication.

The main role of the Kids Teacher will be to teach classes with up to ten students at the elementary school age level. The Kids Teacher will also help to build upon and improve the existing curriculum.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Teach students through phonics, as well as extensive reading and writing, in order to provide students with a solid foundation in basic English skills
- Teach meaningful content such as science and the humanities in English.
- Teach students basic speech and presentation skills.
- Modify and improve the curriculum based on experiences in the classroom.
- Design and write new lessons consistent with the existing curriculum.
- Run teacher training workshops for current and new teachers.

Academic Coach (1-2 year commitment)

The Academic Coach works with Japanese youth to help them achieve their immediate and long-term academic aspirations. At the core of this mission is preparation for entrance exams such as the SAT® and TOEFL iBT®. In addition, the Academic Coach teaches courses in critical thinking, debate, leadership and public speaking to prepare students for their future educational careers. Accordingly, an Academic Coach is responsible for building effective and engaging curriculum for both test preparation classes and classes that will improve English fluency and comprehension in general. The Academic Coach will also be involved in helping students prepare to enter top-tier universities in Japan and abroad. While the Academic Coachfs primary responsibility is to provide quality English education to students, he or she will also be asked to contribute to other projects that will benefit the further development and growth of igsZ. In addition to these duties, the Academic Coach will be a mentor to students who seek to improve their English and critical thinking skills and assume global leadership positions.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
- Share igsZ's vision on global leadership
- Be a U.S. or Canadian citizen
- Have at least a B.A. from a four-year university, preferably in social studies and/or humanities
- Possess a strong academic record
- Demonstrate the ability to teach critical thinking
- Be adept at navigating a cross-cultural environment
- Be passionate about English and liberal arts education
- Be a capable team player and demonstrate the ability to work in a startup team
- Teaching experience is strongly preferred
- Japanese language skills are not required

Furthermore, a successful Kids Teacher candidate should demonstrate a passion for teaching and working with children. Experience teaching children and experience teaching English as a foreign language are strongly preferred. TESL®/TEFL®/TESOL® certification or Master in Education also a plus.

- Competitive salary

Work Hours (subject to change)
- Tuesdays to Saturdays: 12:30 pm to 9:30 pm
- One hour lunch included
- We are closed on Sundays and Mondays
