Extreme Learning Centers have openings for April and May, 2016. ELC has been serving students in Peru for over a decade and in Panama for 3 years. Arequipa is the main city in the southern part of Peru. We are a 45 minutes flight from Cusco. Arequipa is a UNESCO world heritage site, with an amazingly beautiful 400+ year old city center, surrounded by 19,000 ft tall volcanoes. ELC serves approximately 800 students of English. The majority of our students are university students as well. Most study EFL for 2 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Class sizes vary from 4 to 15 students, with the average class size of 11. Young children have classes on Saturday mornings. Our adult classes run 18 days per month, so teachers have a break at the end of each monthly cycle. Our ownership and management team are international, with master’s degrees in education, linguistics and business management. Our curriculum is reviewed annually by an international body, in the USA, made up of 5 PhDs working in ESL.

Peru is a developing country, so the cost of living is low. That also means that our students can’t afford to pay a lot for their classes. Our pay is good for the area and you can live on your salary. Most teachers teach 3 groups, 2 hours per day, 18 days per month, plus rotating schedules for Saturday kids. Expect to earn approximately S/1500 per month (Peruvian Soles). This is about $450 to $500 USD depending on the conversion rate which goes up and down. To better understand wages here, minimum wage is approximately $1.12 USD per hour), so our teachers make more than 3 times minimum wage. We can’t pay for airfare or housing, but we do pick up all teachers at the airport, provide full orientation training, introduce you to the staff and help you in finding housing as well. We want your transition to be smooth and positive. Also, we always promote from within when we note teachers who are exceptional and who have a desire to enter management.

Minimum Requirements: Native speaker of English, TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificate from an accredited institution (with at least 8 hours of observed student teaching practice), a bachelor’s degree in any field, willingness to commit to 6 months, an adaptive personality and an eagerness to be part of our family.
