Savannakhet, Laos: English Teaching Positions Available Immediately and in June 2016

Savannakhet Summer School is a new programme bringing native speakers to teach basic English courses in the central part of Laos. For the time being, we will be operating under the licence of Songsy College, a long-established local education provider. Our vision is to bring some of the benefits of high- quality education to areas outside the capital, Vientiane. Our location, Savannakhet is a laid-back town on the Mekong River which, so far, has been untouched by tourism. It also has great access to surrounding attractions and activities; apart from the attractions of Laos and Thailand, it takes less than half a day’s travel to the borders with Vietnam and Cambodia.
The programme is viewed as a summer school, so learning and fun can both have their place in class time.Discipline is rarely an issue in teaching such classes: students are excited (and a little scared at their first experience of learning with a foreigner.) We use the New English File series as the basis for the course but teachers are more than welcome to add relevant material and activities to the programme that they teach. The New English File series comes with lesson plans and complete explanation of material to be covered.
We are looking for native speakers to teach English classes full-time and also (perhaps) part-time to mostly teenagers and young adults. Class sizes will be kept small at 15 to 20 students. At Beginner level and (if required) at Elementary, teachers will be accompanied by a Lao-speaking teaching assistant.
Positions are available to start immediately or at the start of the summer school around June 13th. Work can be ongoing, so contracts can be renewed for the continuation of courses in September.
Classes run Monday to Friday with possible activity supervision on Fridays. Full-time staff can expect contact time with students to be a maximum of 20 to 25 hours (including activity supervision). We will allow a few days leave also during the programme if class cover can be arranged. There is also the possibility of weekend/ extra corporate work.
Salary (if full- time) will be calculated as $1000pcm and includes free accommodation (large A/C bedroom, ensuite or private bathroom, shared kitchen, washer and living room). We will also cover visa costs after the teacher has entered Laos.
