Summary:
Urgently Required!! Full-Time Chemistry Teacher for Years 10-13 to teach to IGCSE. If have a desire to teach multicultural children to a very high standard and like warm weather, friendly people, then we need you at Cambridge College in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, South America!
Details:
Cambridge College is a medium-sized, non-selective international school in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. We wish to recruit a native English speaking to teach Chemistry for Years 10-13 teachers who, ideally, should be ready to commit to a two-year contract in Bolivia to teach high school students to achieve the exacting standards demanded by IGCSE Examinations.
The specific challenge for the teacher is to prepare students for the Chemistry IGCSE in year 11 and advance them further towards year 13. The student body is remarkably diverse. We have had graduate students from China, Korea, Colombia, Finland, Ecuador, Argentina, Dominican Republic, Peru, Lebanon, Brazil, as well as from the various regions of Bolivia.
We are looking for someone with, preferably, two years’ experience and the ability to deal with students from Bolivia and other Latin American countries that have had extensive prior English language knowledge. Having earned a reputation for high academic standards, Cambridge College is well established school, operating at full capacity. The working environment is friendly and mutually supportive. We are happy to put applicants in touch with both current and former teachers who have been here for a year or two and then returned to their own countries.
New teachers have joined us for a variety of reasons, such as the desire to experience teaching in a Latin American country, to improve their Spanish, to examine at close range the social and political hurdles faced by a developing country or simply an interest in exploring Bolivia’s extraordinarily diverse natural environment.
The school is housed in a new infrastructure which has a capacity of 1500 students with all the amenities expected of a modern school of high standing, including an enclosed Coliseum (2016 mid-year), Semi-Olympic sized swimming pool (2016 mid-year), football fields, computer rooms and multi-media centre and library.
Santa Cruz is Bolivia’s largest and fastest growing city, having expanded from a small village of about 50,000 to a sprawling metropolis of over two million in the last 50 years. It is an agricultural centre located on Bolivia’s fertile eastern plains, rather than the high altitude environment of the Andes with which Bolivia is often associated. The city is on the edge of the awe-inspiring Amboro National Park, and a short distance from the jungles of the Pantanal, made famous in John Gresham’s book “The Testament”. A few hours’ drive away, you can admire the magnificent 18th Century Jesuit Missions ( as seen in ´´The Mission´´, starring Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons), which have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Every two years, the region celebrates its internationally renowned Baroque Music Festival.
